Job Description

Job Summary

The Marine Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of marine and port-related equipment to support vessel, barge, and offshore/nearshore operations. The role ensures equipment is operated in line with safety standards, operational procedures, and project requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

  • Operate marine/port equipment safely and efficiently, such as:

    • Forklift, telehandler, wheel loader

    • Excavator, backhoe, skid steer

    • Mobile crane (if certified), rough terrain forklift (if certified)

    • Winches, capstans, mooring equipment (where applicable)

  • Support loading/unloading of vessels/barges, material handling, and yard/jetty operations.

  • Follow lifting and rigging instructions under supervision of lifting supervisor/riggers.

Safety & Compliance

  • Perform daily pre-start inspections and complete checklists/logbooks.

  • Follow all HSE requirements (PPE, toolbox talks, permits to work, safe lifting, confined space rules if applicable).

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, near-misses, incidents, or equipment defects.

  • Maintain safe work zones and ensure proper barricading/signage during operations.

Basic Maintenance & Reporting

  • Carry out basic equipment care: cleaning, greasing (if assigned), refueling, checking fluids.

  • Report breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.

  • Maintain accurate operational records (hours, fuel, job tickets, checklists).

Operational Support

  • Assist in mooring/unmooring activities when required (as per training/authorization).

  • Coordinate with marine crew, signalman/banksman, supervisors, and logistics teams.

  • Ensure materials are handled without damage and placed as per site plan.


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Basic schooling (preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum 2–5 years in marine/port operations or heavy equipment operation (preferred).

  • Certifications (Preferred / As Applicable):

    • Equipment operator license (forklift/excavator/loader etc.)

    • Banksman/Signalman certificate

    • Rigger (if required)

    • Lifting equipment license (crane) if role includes crane operation

  • Knowledge:

    • Safe lifting & material handling practices

    • Marine/jetty/port safety awareness

    • Understanding of load charts (if crane operator)

  • Physical Requirements: Fit for duty; able to work outdoors, in heat/humidity, and shift patterns.

  • Calm under pressure and responsible with equipment
