The Junior Welding Supervisor supports welding operations in a fabrication or manufacturing setup by assisting in supervising welders, monitoring welding processes, and ensuring basic quality, safety, and productivity standards are followed. This role acts as a link between floor-level execution and mid-level supervision.
Assist in assigning daily welding tasks to team members
Monitor welding progress and basic quality checks during shifts
Ensure welders follow WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and drawings
Support pre-weld and post-weld inspection activities under guidance
Check welding joints for surface finish, bead size, and visible defects
Ensure availability of welding equipment, electrodes, and shielding gases
Enforce the use of PPE (welding helmets, gloves, aprons, goggles)
Ensure compliance with shop-floor safety and fire prevention rules
Promote 5S practices and clean, organized workstations
Coordinate with senior supervisors, fitters, and QA/QC for production flow
Record attendance, work completion, and minor downtime issues
Report equipment malfunctions or safety incidents immediately
Support welding operations and ensure work is performed as per given specifications
Track weld progress and report discrepancies or delays to seniors
Guide junior welders or helpers and ensure compliance with basic instructions
Maintain logs of daily activities and assist with inspection readiness
ITI / Diploma in Welding Technology / Fabrication / Mechanical Engineering
1–3 years of experience in welding operations in a fabrication or manufacturing setup
Basic knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, MIG, TIG, FCAW)
Ability to read simple fabrication and welding drawings
Familiar with welding tools, PPE, and safety practices
Good communication and coordination skills
Willingness to learn and grow into a full supervisory role
Exposure to ASME/AWS welding standards
Experience in fabrication of structural steel, piping, or pressure vessels
Familiarity with WPS, PQR, and welding symbols
Shop-floor-based role with exposure to welding heat, fumes, and noise
PPE mandatory – welding helmet, gloves, safety shoes, apron
May involve shift rotation or extended hours during project deadlines
