We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Senior Welding Engineer with recognized AWS/ASME certifications to lead the development, qualification, and oversight of welding processes in high-performance fabrication environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in welding metallurgy, procedure design, and regulatory compliance, and will serve as the technical authority for welding across projects. This role involves mentoring engineers and welders, interfacing with cross-functional teams, and driving process innovation.
Lead development and qualification of WPS, PQR, and WPQ for new and existing applications.
Design welding procedures for complex materials (e.g., high-strength steels, stainless, Inconel, aluminum alloys).
Oversee destructive and non-destructive testing during qualification trials.
Interpret and apply international codes such as ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1/D1.6, API 1104, and ISO 3834.
Ensure that welding processes comply with project specifications, customer requirements, and safety regulations.
Conduct internal audits and support external certification and customer audits.
Lead weld inspection planning, including NDT (UT, RT, PT, MT, VT) integration and review.
Drive resolution of weld defects and conduct in-depth root cause analyses.
Ensure compliance with traceability and documentation requirements.
Optimize welding processes to improve productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Evaluate and implement automated, robotic, and mechanized welding systems.
Introduce new technologies such as laser welding, friction stir welding, or hybrid processes.
Mentor and train junior welding engineers, inspectors, and shop personnel.
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for welding on cross-functional project teams.
Contribute to technical reviews, design evaluations, and material selection processes.
Define welding strategy and standards for fabrication and production programs.
Approve final welding documentation and oversee compliance across all projects.
Collaborate with design, materials, QA/QC, and production teams to integrate welding early in product development.
Interface with clients, certifying agencies, and third-party inspectors on welding matters.
Continuously improve safety and quality through engineering controls and procedural enhancements.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
7+ years of hands-on welding engineering experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, energy, or aerospace.
Valid certification: AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng), AWS CWI, or ASME equivalent.
Expertise in welding metallurgy, HAZ management, PWHT, and advanced materials.
Deep understanding of NDT methods and weld defect characterization.
Experience leading robotic/automated welding programs or welding R&D initiatives.
Knowledge of welding simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Simufact Welding, SYSWELD).
Familiarity with digital inspection systems and Industry 4.0 in welding.
Active participation in technical committees (e.g., AWS, ASME, IIW).
