We are seeking a motivated Junior Welding Engineer to assist in the development, qualification, and monitoring of welding activities in accordance with ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1 standards. This is an entry-level role, ideal for engineers early in their careers who are eager to learn and support the welding engineering team in ensuring code compliance, weld quality, and production efficiency.
Assist in preparing and reviewing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQR).
Support the development and updating of welding documentation in line with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and customer requirements.
Participate in weld procedure trials and witness welder performance tests.
Observe welding operations and assist in ensuring adherence to approved WPS.
Support troubleshooting of basic weld defects such as porosity, undercut, and incomplete fusion.
Communicate observations to senior welding engineers or QA/QC personnel.
Track welder qualifications and validity dates.
Help maintain weld traceability records and material identification documentation.
Collect and organize data for weld inspection and audit reports.
Study and apply code requirements from ASME, AWS, and ISO welding standards.
Support internal audits and participate in basic failure analysis or NCR investigations.
Attend training sessions on weld metallurgy, codes, and fabrication techniques.
Assist in welding documentation (WPS, PQR, WQR) preparation and record-keeping
Support code-compliant welding practices on shop/site projects
Observe and learn weld quality control and basic troubleshooting
Develop familiarity with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and common fabrication standards
Education:
Bachelor’s or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, or Metallurgy
Basic knowledge of ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1 (academic or certification coursework preferred)
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in welding or fabrication environments (internship/project experience accepted)
Skills:
Understanding of basic welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW)
Ability to read welding symbols and fabrication drawings
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Good communication and documentation skills
