The Senior Food Grade Welder is a highly skilled welding professional responsible for executing and overseeing advanced TIG, MIG, and orbital welding operations on stainless steel components used in sanitary processing systems. This individual ensures the highest standards of weld quality, surface finish, and hygiene compliance in line with 3-A, ASME BPE, USDA, and FDA regulations. The senior welder also mentors junior welders, supports quality inspections, and collaborates with engineering and QA to deliver flawless, food-safe fabrication outcomes.
Perform expert-level TIG, MIG, and orbital welding on sanitary-grade stainless steel (304/316L), including tubing, piping, tanks, and structural components.
Ensure all welds comply with 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE, and internal quality benchmarks (e.g., Ra finish, crevice-free joints).
Lead orbital welding setup, programming, and troubleshooting for both manual and automated equipment.
Interpret complex fabrication and piping isometric drawings, weld maps, and technical specifications.
Perform visual and dimensional self-inspections, document results, and assist in weld log/traceability reporting.
Mentor junior welders and assist in developing and enforcing standard welding procedures (WPS).
Work collaboratively with QC, engineering, and fabrication supervisors to resolve design or weld-related challenges.
Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) preparation, weld rework coordination, and continuous improvement projects.
Ensure compliance with GMP, food safety, and workplace safety practices.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical certification or apprenticeship in welding or fabrication required
AWS D1.6, ASME Section IX, or ISO 9606-1 certification strongly preferred
