Job Title: Welder – Food Grade TIG/MIG/Orbital

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Food Grade Welder performs precise TIG, MIG, and orbital welding on stainless steel components for sanitary systems used in food, beverage, and dairy processing. This role requires proficiency in sanitary welding techniques, surface finish standards, and adherence to 3-A and ASME BPE fabrication protocols. The welder works with minimal supervision and supports fabrication quality, safety, and productivity targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality TIG and MIG welding on stainless steel tubing, vessels, and sheet components for food-grade applications.

  • Set up and operate orbital welding machines (closed-head and open-head) for pipe-to-pipe and pipe-to-fitting joints.

  • Read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and isometric diagrams.

  • Ensure welds meet sanitary codes (e.g., 3-A, ASME BPE) and specified Ra surface finish standards.

  • Polish, grind, and blend welds as needed to achieve crevice-free sanitary surfaces.

  • Perform in-process self-inspections and support quality documentation and traceability requirements.

  • Follow safety protocols and maintain clean, organized work areas compliant with GMPs.

  • Assist with training of junior welders and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Report quality issues or design conflicts to supervisors or engineers.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Welding certification (e.g., AWS D1.6, ASME Section IX, or ISO 9606-1) preferred

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of welding experience in stainless steel sanitary fabrication

  • Demonstrated experience with orbital welding equipment and procedures is highly preferred

Skills:

  • Strong TIG/MIG welding proficiency on thin-wall stainless steel

  • Understanding of sanitary design and fabrication standards (3-A, ASME BPE, USDA)

  • Familiarity with surface finish specs, Ra measurements, and internal weld quality expectations

  • Ability to work from blueprints and isometric piping drawings

  • Team-oriented, with strong problem-solving and quality awareness
