The Mid-Level Water Treatment Technician – Boiler Feedwater is responsible for ensuring optimal water quality and system performance for steam generation and utility operations. This role manages water sampling, chemical dosing, and feedwater system inspections, and assists in troubleshooting and corrective maintenance. The technician helps ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and food safety standards, supporting continuous operations in a regulated production environment.
Conduct routine sampling and lab analysis of boiler feedwater, condensate, and makeup water.
Monitor and maintain correct chemical dosing for corrosion prevention, scale control, and deaeration.
Interpret test results and make real-time adjustments to treatment protocols.
Inspect and maintain feedwater pumps, softeners, deaerators, RO units, and chemical feed systems.
Calibrate testing instruments and dosing controllers as part of preventive maintenance.
Clean strainers, replace filters, and assist with system flushes and sanitization.
Maintain accurate records of water quality results, treatment logs, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with ASME, FDA, USDA, or FSMA utility-related standards (where applicable).
Prepare documentation and support internal and external audits.
Identify root causes of water quality deviations (e.g., hardness breakthrough, foaming, carryover).
Collaborate with boiler operators and maintenance teams during system anomalies or outages.
Recommend system improvements or chemical program adjustments based on trend data.
Coordinate with vendors and chemical suppliers for deliveries, testing kits, and technical support.
Train junior technicians on basic testing and treatment principles.
Support sustainability initiatives, such as water conservation and waste minimization.

High school diploma or GED required
Technical certification or associate degree in water treatment, industrial maintenance, or chemistry preferred
3–6 years of experience in boiler water treatment, utility systems, or industrial plant operations
Experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or other regulated facilities preferred
Proficient with water quality testing (e.g., titration, conductivity, ORP, hardness)
Familiarity with softeners, RO systems, deaerators, and dosing pumps
Understanding of feedwater system diagrams and chemical program documentation
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and trend recognition
Effective communicator, both in documentation and team collaboration
Safety-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
