Roles & Responsibilities

The Vice President of Operations – Turbomachinery / Power Systems is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of turbine-based power generation systems, including gas and steam turbines, compressors, and supporting mechanical systems. This executive role leads plant operations, asset performance, reliability, and strategic planning to ensure maximum efficiency, uptime, and sustainability across facilities. The VP will manage cross-functional teams and partner with engineering, maintenance, and OEMs to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Strategy & Oversight

  • Lead all operations involving turbomachinery and power systems, including power generation units, auxiliary systems, and mechanical infrastructure.

  • Develop and implement plant operations strategies to optimize production, energy efficiency, and reliability.

2. Performance Management

  • Monitor and improve KPIs such as heat rate, turbine efficiency, availability, capacity factor, and equipment uptime.

  • Oversee operational audits, performance benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives.

3. Asset Integrity & Reliability

  • Implement Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance strategies for turbomachinery and rotating equipment.

  • Lead risk-based inspection and lifecycle extension programs for critical assets.

4. Turbine & Power System Optimization

  • Ensure optimal performance of gas and steam turbines, generators, and auxiliaries by collaborating with OEMs and internal engineering teams.

  • Manage turbine overhauls, upgrades, and control system enhancements.

5. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure operations comply with regulatory standards (OSHA, ISO, NERC, API, ASME, local energy regulations).

  • Lead a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational discipline.

6. Team Leadership & Resource Management

  • Lead and mentor operations managers, plant supervisors, control room teams, and field operators.

  • Plan resource allocation, workforce development, and technical training programs.

7. Business Continuity & Risk Management

  • Develop contingency plans for operational disruptions, grid failures, or major equipment breakdowns.

  • Engage in strategic planning for capacity additions, redundancy planning, and long-term operations readiness.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Turbomachinery Operations: Gas/steam turbine start-up, load management, performance tuning, and failure recovery.

  • Power Generation Systems: End-to-end operation of turbines, HRSGs, generators, switchgear, and BOP systems.

  • Operational Excellence: Lean operations, Six Sigma initiatives, O&M cost control, and best-in-class availability metrics.

  • Asset Performance Optimization: Integration of IIoT, SCADA, PI systems, and performance dashboards for real-time monitoring.

  • Digital Operations: Deployment of digital twins, automated diagnostics, and predictive analytics platforms.

  • Turnaround & Outage Planning: Execution of planned outages and overhauls with minimal impact on production schedules.

  • Sustainability & Energy Efficiency: Reducing carbon footprint, emissions monitoring, and energy recovery strategies.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Energy Management.

  • Experience: 20+ years in power plant operations or turbomachinery-focused operations, with 10+ years in senior management.

  • Certifications (Preferred): PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, NEBOSH, API 616/617, ISO 55000, CMRP.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of turbine operations, power plant controls, SCADA/DCS systems, and OEM-specific platforms (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).

  • Leadership Competencies: Strategic decision-making, crisis management, people development, and stakeholder engagement.
