Job Title: Vehicle Technician – Mechanical Diagnostics
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Vehicle Technician – Mechanical Diagnostics is responsible for independently performing mechanical diagnostics, fault isolation, and component-level repairs on various automotive systems. This role involves advanced troubleshooting of engines, drivetrains, suspensions, and chassis systems using diagnostic tools, schematics, and test procedures. The technician plays a critical role in supporting development vehicles, fleet maintenance, and performance evaluations across R&D or field service operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform mechanical fault diagnosis using scan tools, pressure/vacuum gauges, and mechanical inspection techniques.

Troubleshoot issues related to powertrain, suspension, steering, brakes, and thermal systems.

Carry out component replacement, system calibrations, and functional verifications per repair procedures.

Interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), live data, and mechanical symptoms to identify root causes.

Support root cause investigations in collaboration with engineering or quality teams.

Document findings, repair steps, and parts usage in maintenance tracking systems.

Maintain tool inventory, ensure shop safety compliance, and mentor junior technicians when needed.

Provide technical feedback to improve system designs, serviceability, and diagnostic methods.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:

Technical diploma or associate degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Systems, or related field
Experience:

3–5 years of hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics, mechanical repair, or R&D support

Prior experience with development vehicles or prototype support preferred
Technical Skills:

Proficient with diagnostic scanners, multimeters, pressure testers, and torque equipment

Strong knowledge of automotive systems: engine, transmission, suspension, HVAC, etc.

Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and service manuals
