Valve Test Technician – Hydrostatic and Flow Testing

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Valve Test Technician to lead and execute hydrostatic and flow testing operations for marine and industrial valves. This role demands a deep technical understanding of pressure testing protocols, regulatory compliance, and failure diagnostics. The senior technician will take charge of complex testing procedures, mentor junior team members, and ensure that all valves meet industry standards and client requirements prior to release.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead and execute advanced hydrostatic, pneumatic, and flow testing procedures for valves ranging from small to large diameters (½” to 36”+).

    • Oversee the operation and maintenance of automated and manual valve test benches, high-pressure pumps, and flow rigs.

    • Interpret and validate technical drawings, test specifications, inspection requirements, and client-specific standards.

    • Perform root cause analysis for valve test failures, leaks, or operational anomalies; recommend and implement corrective actions.

    • Prepare, review, and approve detailed test documentation, reports, and certificates for internal and external audits.

    • Ensure test setups are safe and in accordance with EHS and pressure safety standards.

    • Support and enforce compliance with international standards such as API 598, API 6D, ISO 5208, ASME B16.34, MSS-SP-61.

    • Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to junior and mid-level valve test technicians.

    • Coordinate with QA, Engineering, and Production departments to resolve non-conformities and maintain workflow efficiency.

    • Participate in client inspections, third-party audits, and certification processes (e.g., ABS, DNV, USCG).

Key Focus Areas:

    1. Advanced Testing Proficiency:

      • Manage high-pressure hydrostatic tests up to and beyond 10,000 psi.

      • Conduct functional and dynamic flow testing under simulated service conditions.

    2. Technical Leadership:

      • Supervise daily test operations and allocate tasks to junior staff.

      • Act as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and complex test sequences.

    3. Data Acquisition & Analysis:

      • Utilize advanced pressure transducers, data loggers, and automated systems for real-time monitoring.

      • Analyze and interpret test data trends for predictive maintenance insights.

    4. Valve Types & Applications:

      • Expert in testing various valves: gate, globe, check, ball, control, safety relief, and pressure-reducing valves.

      • Familiar with valves used in shipboard systems, offshore platforms, LNG, and refinery environments.

    5. Audit & Certification Readiness:

      • Ensure documentation and test traceability are audit-ready for classification societies (e.g., ABS, LR, BV, DNV).

      • Lead client Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and third-party witness inspections.

Qualifications and Skills:

    • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.

    • 5–8 years of hands-on valve testing experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.

    • Deep familiarity with high-pressure testing protocols and flow dynamics.

    • Skilled in identifying valve performance defects and interfacing with repair/rework teams.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in reporting and documentation.

    • Proficient in test software and digital test control systems.

    • Excellent communication, mentoring, and coordination abilities.

Preferred:

    • Certifications in valve inspection or NDT (VT/PT/UT/MT).

    • Experience in marine, oil & gas, or nuclear sector valve testing.

    • Prior exposure to ISO 9001, API Q1, or similar quality management systems.
