Valve Test Technician

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Mid-Level Valve Test Technician to carry out pressure testing and functional checks of various industrial valves, ensuring full compliance with applicable standards and client specifications. The role involves working closely with assembly, QA/QC, and engineering teams to verify valve integrity and performance prior to release.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Valve Pressure Testing

    • Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic, seat leakage, and shell pressure tests on valves as per API 598, API 6D, and ASME B16.34.

    • Set up test rigs, connect test media, and pressurize valves using appropriate procedures.

    • Test various valve types: gate, globe, check, ball, butterfly, control, and safety/relief valves.

2. Test Bench Operation

    • Operate and maintain manual and automatic test benches with a focus on safety and accuracy.

    • Monitor and record pressures, leak rates, and hold times using gauges or digital data loggers.

    • Identify any abnormal pressure drops, seal failures, or valve malfunction during tests.

3. Documentation & Reporting

    • Complete detailed test reports, including pressure readings, leak observations, and pass/fail status.

    • Record serial numbers, valve specifications, and applicable project or batch references.

    • Assist QA/QC inspectors with certification and documentation of tested valves.

4. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

    • Ensure test equipment, gauges, and instruments are calibrated and functioning properly.

    • Perform routine checks and coordinate with the maintenance team for service or repair needs.

    • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the test bay, fixtures, and hoses.

5. Safety & Compliance

    • Follow HSE guidelines and use appropriate PPE when working with high-pressure systems.

    • Ensure test procedures are compliant with standards and client-specific requirements.

    • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment failures, or test deviations to supervisors.

Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Execute pressure and functional testing of valves independently.

    • Interpret valve datasheets, test plans, and client specifications.

    • Coordinate with assembly and QA teams to ensure test readiness.

    • Support pre-dispatch and final inspection activities as needed.

Qualifications:

    • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical or Instrumentation Engineering.

    • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in valve testing or related mechanical testing.

    • Proficient with pressure test setups, tools, and safety protocols.

    • Familiarity with API, ASME, and ISO standards related to valve testing.

Key Skills:

    • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude

    • Good understanding of test pressures, seal types, and valve operation

    • Ability to interpret test reports, pressure gauges, and calibration charts

    • Effective communication and documentation skills

    • Safety-conscious and attentive to test precision

Preferred Certifications (Optional):

    • OEM training or certification in valve testing (e.g., Audco, KSB, Velan)

    • ASNT Level II (PT/MT) – added advantage

    • Safety training: High-Pressure Systems, H2S Awareness, Confined Space

Working Conditions:

    • Workshop or test bay environment with occasional site-based testing

    • Exposure to water, compressed air, nitrogen, and mechanical noise

    • Requires use of safety equipment, lifting moderate weights, and standing for long periods
