Valve Technician (Assembly, Repair, Overhaul)

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Valve Technician to lead the servicing, assembly, testing, and overhaul of a wide range of industrial valves. The ideal candidate will have deep mechanical expertise, the ability to interpret technical documents, supervise teams, and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety procedures. This role requires both workshop and potential field service capability.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Expert Valve Servicing (Assembly, Repair & Overhaul)

    • Independently dismantle, inspect, repair, and assemble various valves (ball, gate, globe, butterfly, check, safety, control, pressure relief).

    • Diagnose defects such as erosion, corrosion, mechanical wear, and seal failures.

    • Conduct critical operations like lapping, machining, seat ring fitting, stem alignment, and actuator installation.

2. Testing & Quality Compliance

    • Lead hydrostatic and pneumatic testing in line with API 598, API 6D, and ASME B16.34.

    • Set, adjust, and verify pressure relief valves using certified testing equipment.

    • Maintain detailed records of pressure test results, tolerances, and any observed deviations.

3. Technical Documentation & Reporting

    • Prepare job reports, repair logs, material usage lists, and NCRs if required.

    • Ensure traceability of components and proper tagging of valves throughout the process.

    • Review and interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, and OEM manuals.

4. Team Supervision & Mentorship

    • Supervise junior and mid-level technicians during valve overhaul and assembly.

    • Assign tasks, verify workmanship, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

    • Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance to team members.

5. Safety & Worksite Efficiency

    • Lead compliance with HSE standards and workshop/site safety policies.

    • Ensure safe handling and use of lifting equipment, test benches, and power tools.

    • Proactively identify risks and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety.

Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Manage end-to-end valve service operations — from receipt and disassembly to testing and final inspection.

    • Interface with QA/QC inspectors, client representatives, and engineering teams as required.

    • Support on-site valve servicing, shutdown/turnaround jobs, and emergency repairs.

    • Maintain housekeeping, tool condition, and readiness of test equipment.

    • Assist in the procurement or requisitioning of spare parts and consumables.

Qualifications:

    • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Fitter Trade.

    • 6–10+ years of hands-on experience in valve repair, assembly, and testing (workshop or field).

    • Strong technical knowledge of industrial valves, actuators, and control systems.

    • Understanding of international standards (API, ASME, ISO) related to valves and testing procedures.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

    • OEM-specific valve repair training (e.g., Fisher, Velan, KSB, Audco)

    • Familiarity with control valve diagnostics and calibration tools

    • ASNT NDT Level II (PT/MT) is an added advantage

    • Safety Certifications (e.g., H2S, Confined Space, Fire Watch)

    • Valid driver's license for field assignments (if applicable)

Working Conditions:

    • Workshop and on-site (shutdowns, turnarounds, installations)

    • Requires flexibility in working hours, including overtime or night shifts

    • Exposure to high-pressure testing, hot/cold environments, and industrial tools
