We are seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior Valve Maintenance Technician to lead the inspection, servicing, and repair of valves in the water distribution system. This role is responsible for overseeing field activities, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring system reliability and regulatory compliance through expert valve management.
Advanced Valve Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform and supervise complex maintenance and troubleshooting on various valve types (e.g., gate, butterfly, control, air release, pressure-reducing, and check valves).
Lead valve isolation procedures for shutdowns, emergency responses, or system modifications.
Diagnose operational problems, recommend solutions, and execute advanced field repairs.
Leadership & Supervision
Coordinate field crews during valve exercising programs, emergency responses, or capital valve replacements.
Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians on field safety, maintenance best practices, and use of specialized equipment.
Ensure adherence to work plans, safety standards, and valve program protocols.
Planning & Documentation
Plan and prioritize routine and corrective maintenance activities across assigned zones.
Ensure accurate and timely entry of valve inspection data into CMMS and GIS platforms.
Review maintenance records, analyze trends, and recommend asset improvements or replacements.
Compliance & Safety Oversight
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (AWWA, OSHA) and organizational maintenance procedures.
Lead safety briefings, ensure proper use of PPE, and enforce traffic control and confined space protocols.
Identify safety risks in the field and propose mitigation strategies.
Collaboration & Technical Support
Collaborate with engineers, operations teams, and asset managers to support valve reliability and system performance.
Provide technical input during valve upgrades, system design changes, or capital projects.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the valve maintenance program.

Education:
High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or certification in water systems, mechanical maintenance, or related field strongly preferred
Experience:
6+ years of valve maintenance experience in a water distribution or utility environment
Experience in field leadership and training of maintenance crews
Skills:
Expert knowledge of valve operation, failure modes, and repair techniques
Proficient in CMMS, GIS systems, and utility mapping tools
Skilled in safety compliance, traffic control, and confined space procedures
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
