We are seeking a reliable and skilled Valve Maintenance Technician to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of valves within the water distribution system. This mid-level role requires the ability to work independently in the field, support routine and emergency maintenance operations, and ensure valves remain in optimal working condition.
Valve Maintenance & Repair
Perform scheduled valve exercising, inspection, lubrication, and minor repairs for gate, butterfly, check, air release, and control valves across the distribution network.
Use valve exercising equipment and hand tools to operate valves safely and correctly.
Replace seals, stems, and other components on valves showing signs of wear or leakage.
Field Operations Support
Assist with valve isolations during planned maintenance, main breaks, or emergency outages.
Identify and document valve defects or inoperable conditions, and report them for follow-up repair or replacement.
Support pressure testing and flushing operations as needed.
Documentation & System Updates
Accurately document valve condition, maintenance activities, and operational data in field logs or digital devices.
Update the CMMS and GIS systems with valve location data, repair history, and inspection results.
Maintain records for regulatory compliance and internal performance tracking.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere to field safety standards, including traffic control procedures, confined space entry, trench safety, and PPE use.
Participate in daily safety briefings and report hazards or incidents to supervisors.
Ensure work complies with organizational and regulatory water utility standards.
Teamwork & Knowledge Sharing
Work alongside other technicians and field crews during complex valve operations.
Provide informal guidance to junior techs or apprentices when needed.
Stay current with training on new tools, equipment, and valve technologies.
Independent valve inspection and minor repair

Education:
High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training in water systems or mechanical maintenance preferred
Experience:
3–5 years of valve maintenance experience within water distribution or similar utility environment
Skills:
Proficient in operating valve exercising equipment and common hand tools
Strong understanding of valve types, functions, and maintenance needs
Ability to read maps, utility drawings, and interpret system layouts
Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Comfortable working independently in outdoor environments
