We are seeking a motivated Junior Valve Maintenance Technician to assist in performing maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on valves throughout the water distribution system. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to develop hands-on experience with water infrastructure under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Valve Inspection & Support Tasks
Assist in routine inspection, lubrication, and minor adjustment of isolation, check, and control valves in the water distribution network.
Record valve positions and operational status during field inspections.
Support cleaning, exercising, and testing activities on small to large diameter valves.
Field Maintenance Assistance
Work under supervision to help isolate valves for planned maintenance or emergency shutdowns.
Support valve operation using manual tools or actuators during maintenance activities.
Assist in identifying leaks, corrosion, or mechanical wear on valve components.
Data Collection & Reporting
Accurately document valve locations, conditions, and maintenance actions using handheld devices or log sheets.
Report faulty valves or access issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
Participate in basic data entry into the maintenance management system.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all field safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, traffic safety practices, and confined space awareness.
Participate in job safety briefings and report unsafe conditions.
Comply with environmental and regulatory standards.
Training & Development
Learn valve types, functions, and maintenance practices through hands-on tasks and formal training.
Shadow experienced technicians to develop field troubleshooting and tool-handling skills.
Show readiness to advance into more independent responsibilities over time.
Supporting valve maintenance and inspection tasks
Assisting senior technicians in fieldwork
Ensuring safety compliance and accurate documentation
Developing technical skills in water distribution systems
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Technical or vocational coursework in water utilities, mechanics, or related field preferred
Experience:
0–2 years of field experience (internship, apprenticeship, or utility maintenance a plus)
Skills:
Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in water infrastructure
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to follow instructions, work in a team, and learn new tools and procedures
Strong attention to safety and detail in field documentation
