Valve Design Supervisor

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Valve Design Supervisor supports the design and development of industrial valves (e.g., gate, globe, check, ball, butterfly valves). This role involves supervising design activities such as drafting, modeling, and engineering documentation under guidance. The position requires basic knowledge of valve design principles, CAD tools, and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and supervision of 2D drawings and 3D models for valve components and assemblies.

  • Review and interpret customer specifications, API/ASME standards, and internal design procedures.

  • Ensure drawing accuracy, dimensioning, tolerancing (GD&T), and BOM generation.

  • Coordinate with drafting teams to meet project timelines and design quality standards.

  • Conduct basic design calculations (e.g., flow, pressure, material selection) under supervision.

  • Maintain engineering records including revision history, design checklists, and release documents.

  • Support design change requests (ECRs), ECNs, and contribute to continuous improvement of existing products.

  • Liaise with production, QA, and procurement teams for technical clarifications and manufacturability.

  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback from senior engineers or customers.

  • Ensure CAD data management, drawing control, and version tracking using PDM/PLM systems if applicable.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Valve Design Fundamentals:

    • Basic understanding of industrial valve types (gate, globe, ball, butterfly, etc.) and their operating principles.

    • Knowledge of key components such as body, bonnet, stem, seat, disc, and actuator interfaces.

  2. CAD and Drafting Supervision:

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar tools.

    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of part drawings, assemblies, and exploded views.

  3. Standards & Specification Compliance:

    • Familiarity with API 6D, API 600, ASME B16.34, ISO 5211, and other valve-related standards.

    • Apply standard tolerances and material callouts per design norms.

  4. Cross-Functional Communication:

    • Coordinate effectively with internal teams for drawing approvals, data sharing, and feedback resolution.

    • Clarify basic technical queries from shop floor, suppliers, or quality team.

  5. Documentation & Version Control:

    • Ensure proper record-keeping of design files, BOMs, and drawing revisions.

    • Support implementation of engineering change control procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Design / Production Engineering.

  • 1–3 years of experience in valve design or a related mechanical product design role.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and understanding of mechanical design principles.

  • Basic knowledge of industry codes and standards for valve design.

  • Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and grow under guidance.
