We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Valve Design Engineer with proven expertise in the design, analysis, and development of industrial valves compliant with ASME, API, and ISO standards. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership in the design and lifecycle management of valves (gate, globe, ball, butterfly, check, control, and safety valves) for critical applications in oil & gas, power, process, and utility sectors. This role combines advanced mechanical engineering design, hands-on validation, and cross-functional collaboration to support standard and engineered-to-order (ETO) products.
Lead the full-cycle design and development of industrial valve products, including pressure boundary components and internal trim.
Ensure all designs are fully compliant with applicable industry standards:
ASME B16.34, API 600/602/608/609/6D/598/527/607, ISO 5208, PED, NACE MR0175, MSS-SP series.
Develop 3D CAD models, detailed part/assembly drawings, and perform critical dimensioning and GD&T for complex assemblies.
Mentor junior engineers on mechanical design practices and code compliance.
Execute and review design calculations:
Pressure rating, wall thickness, flow coefficient (Cv), seat load, stem torque, thermal expansion, sealing stress, etc.
Conduct and validate results from finite element analysis (FEA) and support CFD or fatigue life simulations where required.
Select appropriate materials and coatings based on service media, corrosion/erosion risk, pressure-temperature ratings, and customer specs.
Lead valve prototype development, including fire-safe, high-pressure, and high-cycle designs.
Supervise validation tests:
Hydrostatic pressure tests, seat leakage, fugitive emissions, fire testing (API 607/6FA), torque tests, and endurance trials.
Analyze test failures, implement design changes, and lead requalification activities.
Prepare and approve technical deliverables: valve datasheets, calculation reports, DFMEAs, BOMs, inspection & test plans (ITPs), and ECNs.
Serve as the technical authority during customer audits, code compliance reviews, and third-party certifications.
Stay updated on changes to API/ASME standards and ensure timely integration into design practices.
Work closely with:
Manufacturing: for design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and lean production readiness.
QA/QC: for quality plans and inspection procedures.
Sales/Applications: for technical clarifications, bid support, and client specifications.
Procurement: for material, vendor, and sub-supplier alignment.
Manage multiple concurrent valve design projects with high complexity.
Act as subject matter expert (SME) in root cause analysis of field issues and provide engineered solutions.
Participate in internal design reviews, customer FATs, and continuous product improvement programs.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred or required for R&D leadership roles).
Experience:
8–15+ years of progressive experience in valve design, with extensive hands-on involvement in product development, testing, and code compliance.
Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of valve types, pressure boundary design, fluid sealing, actuator interfaces, and service-specific challenges (e.g., cryogenic, abrasive, high-pressure steam).
Familiarity with control valve trims, fire-safe and fugitive emissions designs, and material selection (cast, forged, exotic alloys).
Software Proficiency:
CAD: SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo
FEA: ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent
Valve sizing: Flowserve Performance!, Fisher Specification Manager (a plus)
MS Excel, Word, and PLM systems (SAP, Teamcenter, Windchill)
