We are seeking a hands-on and mechanically inclined Junior Valve Actuator Technician to assist in the inspection, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of valve actuators within a water treatment plant environment. This entry-level role focuses on learning the fundamentals of electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic actuator systems under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Basic Maintenance & Inspection
Assist in the routine inspection and preventive maintenance of valve actuators across treatment and distribution facilities.
Help clean, lubricate, and operate valve actuators using hand tools and basic test equipment.
Support torque checks and verification of actuator operation.
Support for Repairs & Calibrations
Work under supervision to help disassemble, reassemble, or replace actuator components such as limit switches, seals, motors, and solenoids.
Assist in actuator calibration and testing using OEM procedures or diagnostic tools.
Learn how to read electrical and pneumatic schematics and follow work orders.
Data Recording & Documentation
Record basic maintenance data, equipment condition, and task completion in logbooks or CMMS software.
Tag defective actuators and report issues to senior technicians or supervisors promptly.
Safety & Learning
Follow safety protocols, including LOTO procedures and use of PPE when working on electrical or pressurized systems.
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hands-on training sessions.
Ask questions and actively learn about actuator types, functions, and troubleshooting steps.
Supporting actuator inspection and preventive maintenance
Assisting with minor actuator repairs and adjustments
Developing understanding of actuator systems and controls
Promoting safety and learning in field environments
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Technical coursework or certification in electrical/mechanical systems preferred
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or water utility field (internship/apprenticeship experience a plus)
Skills:
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn actuator technologies
Ability to use hand tools and follow safety protocols
Good communication, listening, and team collaboration skills
Comfortable working in outdoor and industrial environments
