The VP of Engineering – Marine Turbomachinery and Energy Systems provides strategic leadership and technical direction for the development, integration, and lifecycle support of advanced marine propulsion and onboard energy systems. The role encompasses gas and steam turbines, hybrid-electric drives, waste heat recovery systems, and associated control technologies for naval and commercial marine platforms. This executive oversees all engineering efforts from concept to deployment, ensuring innovation, compliance, and operational excellence.
Define and execute the engineering vision, technology roadmap, and development strategy for turbomachinery and energy systems across commercial and defense marine sectors.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for design, validation, integration, and sustainment of high-performance propulsion systems, including gas/steam turbines, gear trains, generators, and hybrid propulsion.
Serve as the technical authority for propulsion architecture decisions, advanced materials, rotor dynamics, fluid-thermal design, and control integration.
Oversee engineering governance, including design reviews, safety assurance, compliance with IMO, ABS, DNV, MIL-STDs, and emissions regulations.
Drive development of emerging energy systems such as fuel cells, battery storage, microturbines, and waste heat recovery units.
Ensure that engineering programs are delivered on schedule, within budget, and with high quality, using modern tools and methodologies (e.g., Model-Based Systems Engineering, digital twins, agile delivery).
Collaborate closely with business development, operations, and supply chain teams to support program capture, technology licensing, and global execution.
Represent the company in strategic customer engagements, technical panels, and industry forums.
Build and mentor a high-performance engineering leadership team, fostering innovation, cross-functional alignment, and continuous improvement.

Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
15+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in marine propulsion, turbomachinery, or power generation systems.
Proven expertise in gas and steam turbine technologies, propulsion integration, auxiliary systems, and lifecycle optimization.
Deep understanding of thermodynamics, aerodynamics, vibration analysis, controls, and energy recovery systems.
Familiarity with classification standards (IMO, ABS, DNV), MIL-SPECs, and maritime emissions regulations (EEXI, CII).
Strong business acumen, with experience in program management, cost control, and strategic planning.
Track record of leading global, multi-site engineering teams and delivering complex technical programs.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to engage executive stakeholders and clients.
Experience in naval ship propulsion programs, high-speed turbine vessels, or LNG carriers.
Certifications in PMP, Six Sigma, or Chartered Engineering status.
Familiarity with digital engineering tools (e.g., CAD/CAE platforms, FEA/CFD suites, PLM systems).
Active or eligible for security clearance if required by defense sector engagements.
