VP – Reliability and Performance (Turbine Asset Management)

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The VP – Reliability and Performance is responsible for the development and execution of asset reliability strategies and performance enhancement initiatives for the turbine fleet, including gas turbines, steam turbines, and major rotating equipment. This role ensures equipment health, uptime, and lifecycle optimization by leveraging reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), asset performance management (APM), digital monitoring, and data analytics. The VP will lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and field experts across multiple operational sites.

Key Responsibilities:

⚙️ Reliability Strategy & Execution

  • Define and implement the enterprise reliability strategy for turbine and rotating equipment assets.

  • Lead RCM, FMEA, RCA, and RBI initiatives to prevent failures and optimize maintenance intervals.

  • Drive standardization of asset health assessments, failure prediction models, and reliability KPIs.

📈 Performance Optimization

  • Oversee turbine performance monitoring programs including heat rate, load factor, fuel efficiency, and output degradation tracking.

  • Lead initiatives for power uprates, lifecycle improvements, and emissions reduction.

  • Interface with OEMs to extract maximum value from asset capabilities and upgrade pathways.

🧠 Data-Driven Insights

  • Implement digital platforms and analytics tools (e.g., APM, PI System, Digital Twins, ML models) to enable predictive maintenance.

  • Leverage data science teams to build dashboards, alerts, and reporting systems focused on reliability, availability, and performance.

  • Ensure decisions are backed by real-time turbine health, failure trends, and historical asset data.

🛠️ Asset Integrity & Lifecycle Management

  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering to manage risk of failure, ensure code compliance (API, ASME, ISO), and extend asset life.

  • Prioritize and oversee major inspections, retrofits, and overhauls based on condition assessment.

  • Drive end-of-life analysis, repowering feasibility, and turbine repurposing strategies.

📊 Performance Benchmarking & Reporting

  • Develop and report reliability metrics (MTBF, MTTR, availability, forced outage rates, O&M spend per MW) to executive leadership.

  • Benchmark internal fleet performance against industry standards and best-in-class operations.

  • Present reliability and performance updates to executive committees, regulatory bodies, and board-level stakeholders.

👥 Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Lead cross-functional teams including reliability engineers, diagnostic experts, and performance analysts.

  • Establish reliability governance councils across plant sites.

  • Build talent pipelines through training, mentoring, and external engagement with professional societies.

🤝 OEM & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead technical partnerships with OEMs (GE, Siemens, MHI, etc.), APM vendors, and reliability consultants.

  • Align with capital planning, operations, and maintenance teams to coordinate improvement plans.

  • Interface with regulators, insurers, and auditors on asset risk and performance reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering (Master’s preferred)

    • Certifications such as CMRP, CRE, API 580/581, CRL, or PMP are a plus

  • Experience:

    • 15+ years in power generation, oil & gas, or rotating equipment engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role

    • Proven track record managing large turbine fleets with performance optimization programs

    • Deep understanding of OEM technologies, turbine degradation modes, and data analytics platforms

Technical Competencies:

  • Turbine thermodynamics, control systems, and mechanical degradation modes

  • Reliability engineering (RCM, FMEA, Weibull analysis, APT root cause methods)

  • Familiarity with platforms such as GE APM, OSIsoft PI, Honeywell, or AVEVA

  • Experience with SAP PM, Maximo, or other EAM/CMMS systems

Leadership Competencies:

  • Strong strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills for executive and board-level audiences

  • High EQ with the ability to lead through influence and build reliability culture

  • Ability to manage performance across geographically distributed sites and teams

Work Environment:

  • Corporate or regional HQ with regular visits to power plants and field operations

  • Travel to outage sites, OEM partner locations, and international facilities as required

  • Occasional emergency support during forced outages or critical failures
