VP – Plant Engineering and Maintenance

Roles & Responsibilities

The Vice President – Plant Engineering and Maintenance is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of all plant engineering, facility management, and maintenance functions across the company’s manufacturing sites. This role ensures that production infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards while driving innovation, cost optimization, and asset longevity. The VP will lead capital projects, technical upgrades, and preventive maintenance programs that support high availability and safety of all critical equipment and utilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engineering & Maintenance Strategy:

    • Define and execute a comprehensive strategy for plant engineering, maintenance, and facilities management.

    • Develop long-term asset management plans that align with corporate production and growth objectives.

  2. Capital Project Management:

    • Lead planning, budgeting, execution, and commissioning of new plant infrastructure and equipment upgrades.

    • Ensure timely delivery of CAPEX projects within scope, budget, and compliance requirements.

  3. Maintenance & Reliability Leadership:

    • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.

    • Implement best practices in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), root cause analysis (RCA), and TPM.

  4. Operational Excellence:

    • Collaborate with operations, production, and quality teams to eliminate bottlenecks and improve OEE.

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and cost control.

  5. Regulatory Compliance & Safety:

    • Ensure engineering systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, ASME, ISO).

    • Champion plant safety through risk assessments and system integrity reviews.

  6. Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, maintenance professionals, and project managers.

    • Foster a high-performance, safety-first culture with strong technical and leadership capabilities.

  7. Technology & Innovation:

    • Introduce advanced technologies such as IIoT, CMMS, SCADA, and energy monitoring systems.

    • Lead initiatives for smart maintenance and automation-driven plant management.

Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical & Operational Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of industrial utilities (boilers, HVAC, power, water treatment, compressed air).

  • Experience with high-capital equipment in sectors such as heavy manufacturing, energy, or process industries.

  • Proficiency with CMMS, EAM systems, engineering software, and reliability tools.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Ability to develop and execute plant engineering strategies that support business scalability and resilience.

  • Skilled in stakeholder alignment and cross-functional leadership.

Project & Financial Management:

  • Proven experience in managing multi-million-dollar CAPEX projects and plant upgrades.

  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization abilities.

Analytical & Problem-Solving:

  • Expertise in troubleshooting complex equipment issues and optimizing plant reliability metrics.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Effective communicator with experience presenting to executive leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead and inspire multi-location engineering and maintenance teams.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering

    • M.E./MBA in Operations, Engineering Management, or related fields (preferred)

  • Certifications:

    • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)

    • Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or equivalent (optional but advantageous)

  • Experience:

    • 20+ years in plant engineering or maintenance functions in manufacturing environments

    • At least 8–10 years in a senior leadership or multi-site management role
