The Junior Utility Mechanic supports the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and utility equipment in water treatment facilities. Working under supervision, the role focuses on basic mechanical tasks, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities on equipment such as pumps, valves, mixers, piping systems, and HVAC units. The goal is to ensure operational continuity, reduce downtime, and promote safe and efficient facility performance.
Assistance in Maintenance and Repairs
Support maintenance of pumps, blowers, valves, filters, tanks, piping systems, and chemical feed equipment.
Assist in diagnosing basic mechanical issues and replacing worn components (gaskets, seals, couplings, belts).
Preventive Maintenance (PM)
Perform routine PM tasks under supervision, including lubrication, filter changes, and equipment cleaning.
Help document PM activities in logs or digital systems.
System Monitoring and Inspections
Conduct visual inspections of mechanical assets and report leaks, corrosion, vibrations, or abnormal conditions.
Assist with alignment, calibration, and torque checks as needed.
Support During Facility Shutdowns and Overhauls
Assist in mechanical preparation for planned shutdowns including draining, flushing, and disassembly.
Support reassembly and post-maintenance testing under direction of senior mechanics.
Safety and Compliance
Follow established safety practices including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and PPE use.
Participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard awareness sessions.
Tool Handling and Inventory
Use basic hand tools and power tools appropriately.
Support tool tracking, cleaning, and storage activities.
