The Junior Utilities Maintenance Technician – Steam & Boilers supports the operation, maintenance, and inspection of steam generation systems, boiler equipment, and utility distribution infrastructure. This entry-level role works under the supervision of senior technicians or engineers to ensure safe and efficient utility performance in compliance with industry and safety standards.
Assist in monitoring boiler operations, pressure levels, temperatures, and water treatment systems.
Conduct routine checks on valves, gauges, burners, and steam traps.
Record equipment readings and assist with operational logs.
Support scheduled maintenance on boilers, condensate return systems, and piping.
Help clean boiler tubes, replace gaskets, and lubricate moving components.
Learn to troubleshoot basic utility malfunctions under guidance.
Follow all plant safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and PPE requirements.
Assist in inspections and basic maintenance tasks to comply with regulatory standards.
Learn documentation procedures for maintenance and compliance reporting.
Participate in training related to boiler operations, steam safety, and maintenance techniques.
Learn to interpret utility schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
Shadow experienced technicians to build knowledge of system diagnostics and repair procedures.

High school diploma or GED required
Technical training in HVAC, industrial maintenance, or mechanical systems preferred
0–2 years of experience in industrial or utility system maintenance
Exposure to steam systems, boilers, or water treatment is a plus
Basic understanding of mechanical tools and safety practices
Willingness to learn about steam traps, pressure relief valves, and boiler operations
Ability to follow instructions and complete detailed checklists
