The Junior Turbocharger Design Engineer supports the development and design of turbocharger components and systems for internal combustion and hybrid engines. Working under senior engineers, this role contributes to 3D modeling, drafting, and basic design validation of compressor housings, turbine wheels, bearing systems, and other rotating components. The position offers hands-on exposure to mechanical design, thermodynamic principles, and engineering tools used in the creation of high-performance turbochargers.
Assist in creating 3D models and 2D drawings of turbocharger components using CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks).
Support tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, and design reviews under guidance.
Perform basic calculations related to stress, thermal loading, and material selection.
Work with senior engineers to incorporate design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles.
Participate in prototype builds, testing support, and design updates based on validation feedback.
Document designs, maintain BOMs, and assist with design change processes through PLM systems.
Collaborate with analysis, manufacturing, and testing teams during product development.
Turbocharger component design and CAD modeling
Drawing release and basic mechanical analysis support
Collaboration with cross-functional teams on design implementation
Exposure to turbine, compressor, and bearing system layouts
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering
Coursework or project experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or rotating machinery is preferred
0–2 years of experience; internships or cooperative education in engine, turbocharger, or rotating equipment design are a plus
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA, Creo, or SolidWorks)
Basic knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis
Exposure to FEA, CFD, or thermal simulations is helpful but not required
Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill) and BOM management
Strong attention to detail and curiosity about turbocharger design
Willingness to learn from senior mentors and accept technical feedback
Good documentation and communication skills
Ability to work in a structured, team-based engineering environment
