The Turbo Assembly Technician (Mid-Level) is responsible for the precision assembly, inspection, and functional testing of turbochargers and their subcomponents. Working with minimal supervision, this role involves hands-on mechanical assembly, quality checks, part balancing, and support for continuous improvement efforts. The technician ensures all turbo systems meet manufacturing, performance, and cleanliness standards for automotive applications, while providing mentorship to junior technicians and supporting workflow efficiency.
Assemble turbochargers including CHRA (center housing rotating assembly), compressor/turbine housings, and actuators using technical drawings and SOPs.
Perform precise torqueing, alignment, and sealing operations to ensure leak-free and reliable assemblies.
Set up and operate balancing equipment to balance rotating groups to specification.
Conduct in-process inspections using gauges, micrometers, and calipers to verify component tolerances.
Identify and document defects, escalate nonconformities, and participate in root cause investigations.
Maintain accurate build records and traceability documentation.
Set up and perform leak tests, spin tests, or flow checks on assembled units.
Interpret basic test results and collaborate with engineers or quality teams on product validation and rework if required.
Suggest improvements to assembly procedures, tooling, or workstation layout to reduce waste and increase productivity.
Train and assist junior technicians in best practices, tool usage, and safety procedures.
Coordinate with production leads and planners to meet daily output and quality targets.
Follow cleanroom or controlled environment protocols to prevent contamination of sensitive components.
Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements, including PPE use and equipment safety checks.
