The Senior Turbine Technician leads and performs complex maintenance, overhaul, and inspection tasks on gas and/or steam turbines and associated systems. The role requires expert knowledge of turbine mechanics, precision measurement, and operational integrity. The technician is also responsible for mentoring junior staff and coordinating with engineers and OEM specialists to ensure reliability and efficiency of rotating equipment.
Lead the disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of gas or steam turbines, including critical components like rotors, diaphragms, seals, bearings, and valves.
Execute precise mechanical measurements such as bearing clearances, shaft runouts, and alignment using advanced tools (dial indicators, laser alignment).
Identify and troubleshoot mechanical faults or wear patterns and recommend corrective actions.
Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level technicians during maintenance and overhaul activities.
Collaborate with QA/QC teams to ensure compliance with quality standards and support inspection documentation.
Ensure safety compliance including confined space, LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), and hot work protocols.
Coordinate with OEM representatives during major overhauls, inspections, or warranty work.
Assist in the preparation and updating of technical documentation and maintenance records.
Review and follow OEM manuals, P&IDs, and engineering drawings for all maintenance tasks.
Contribute to outage planning and post-maintenance evaluations and improvements.
Take a lead role in complex turbine maintenance activities and resolve equipment problems through expert-level diagnostics.
Perform and verify advanced dimensional inspections and alignments using high-accuracy tools and techniques.
Train, guide, and evaluate the performance of junior and mid-level technicians in line with best practices.
Ensure all maintenance activities meet OEM standards and are thoroughly documented for traceability and audits.
Proactively manage safety in the field, identify hazards, and lead toolbox talks or job safety assessments (JSA).
Education: Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering/Technology
Experience: 7+ years in turbine maintenance, including overhauls and shutdowns
Preferred Industry: Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical Plants, or other heavy industrial sectors
In-depth understanding of gas and steam turbine systems, including major OEM platforms (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.)
Expertise in mechanical tolerances, fits, alignments, and failure analysis
Strong knowledge of safety practices in high-risk industrial environments
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications
Strong communication and reporting skills
Experience with CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, etc.) is an advantage
