The Senior Turbine Overhaul Technician plays a leading role in the disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of steam and/or gas turbines during planned maintenance or forced outages. This position demands expert technical skills, leadership in the field, adherence to safety and quality standards, and coordination with engineers, OEM representatives, and support teams.
Lead and supervise complete overhaul of gas or steam turbines including HP, IP, and LP sections (as applicable).
Execute disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of major components such as rotors, diaphragms, bearings, blades, casings, and valves.
Conduct precise mechanical measurements including radial/axial clearances, coupling runouts, and concentricity using high-accuracy tools.
Troubleshoot turbine component issues and collaborate on root cause analysis of mechanical failures.
Guide junior technicians and provide on-the-job training in turbine overhaul best practices.
Coordinate closely with QA/QC inspectors, OEM service engineers, and operations personnel.
Supervise and verify alignment procedures, soft foot correction, and thermal growth compensation techniques.
Manage lifting, rigging, and handling of heavy rotating components with proper safety controls.
Document maintenance findings, technical measurements, and progress using CMMS or manual logs.
Ensure adherence to LOTO, confined space, hot work, and other permit-based safety procedures.
Lead overhaul activities from start to finish, ensuring schedule adherence, component integrity, and precise reassembly per OEM specs.
Execute and review critical measurements such as shaft alignment, diaphragm fit, seal clearances, and coupling fits using laser or dial tools.
Supervise field technicians and contractors, ensuring quality control and mentoring on proper practices and procedures.
Identify mechanical wear, corrosion, or abnormal conditions during inspection and initiate corrective action planning.
Enforce strict compliance with site and job-specific safety standards, including high-risk work protocols and emergency preparedness.
Education: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience: 7+ years of experience in gas or steam turbine maintenance, including at least 3 years in an overhaul lead or senior technician role
Preferred Industry: Power Generation, Petrochemical Plants, or Heavy Industrial Maintenance
Strong understanding of turbine internal construction and OEM overhaul procedures (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Alstom, etc.)
Advanced skills in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, feeler gauges, laser alignment tools)
Familiarity with mechanical tolerances, fits, clearances, and fastener torqueing
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, work packs, and OEM manuals
Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and teamwork skills
Proficient in safety management at field level
Field role involving high-temperature environments, confined spaces, and heavy lifting
May include night shifts or extended hours during critical outages or shutdowns
High compliance with PPE usage and industrial safety regulations required
