Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Turbine Overhaul Technician is responsible for executing mechanical overhaul, inspection, and servicing of gas or steam turbines and auxiliary systems. The role involves disassembling turbine components, taking precision measurements, and performing reassembly and testing activities during scheduled maintenance outages or unscheduled shutdowns.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out disassembly and reassembly of turbine components including rotors, blades, diaphragms, bearings, valves, and casings.

  • Perform visual inspections and basic non-destructive testing (NDT) preparation under guidance.

  • Take accurate mechanical measurements (e.g., clearances, runouts, torque values) and record data.

  • Assist in component alignment, bearing setting, and balancing procedures.

  • Conduct oil flushing, shaft alignment, and auxiliary system servicing (seal oil, lube oil, cooling systems).

  • Use precision tools and rigging equipment to handle heavy and sensitive components.

  • Adhere strictly to OEM procedures and safety protocols during overhaul activities.

  • Collaborate with QA/QC, supervisors, and OEM representatives during critical maintenance operations.

  • Identify and report abnormal findings or equipment conditions.

  • Support training and task execution of junior technicians during outages.


Key Focus Areas:

🛠️ Overhaul Execution

  • Independently perform turbine overhaul tasks with a high degree of mechanical accuracy and responsibility.

  • Follow checklists and work packages for critical path turbine work.

📏 Measurement & Quality Control

  • Execute dimensional and clearance checks using micrometers, feeler gauges, dial indicators, etc.

  • Ensure documentation of measurements and inspection findings in overhaul reports.

🧰 Auxiliary System Maintenance

  • Service and inspect turbine auxiliary systems such as lube oil, seal steam, and control systems.

🛡️ Safety & Risk Awareness

  • Comply with safety procedures including LOTO, confined space entry, and PPE usage.

  • Contribute to pre-job safety meetings and hazard identification.

👨‍🔧 Technical Support & Teamwork

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support supervisors in planning and execution.

  • Provide technical mentoring to junior crew members and apprentices.


Qualifications:

  • Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade

  • Experience: 3–6 years of turbine maintenance or overhaul experience (gas or steam turbines)

  • Preferred Industry: Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Heavy Industrial Plants


Skills & Competencies:

  • Solid knowledge of turbine component assembly/disassembly and mechanical fits

  • Skilled in interpreting mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and work instructions

  • Ability to use precision measurement tools accurately

  • Familiarity with rigging and lifting procedures

  • Proactive approach to safety and mechanical problem-solving

  • Good teamwork and communication skills


Working Conditions:

  • Field-based role; may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or high-temperature environments

  • Requires physical endurance, lifting, and working in shifts during shutdowns or outages

  • Adherence to site safety and PPE compliance is mandatory
