The Senior Turbine Maintenance Supervisor – Water Utilities is responsible for leading the end-to-end maintenance strategy, execution, and reliability improvement of water turbines and related mechanical systems used in water treatment, pumping, and power recovery operations. This role involves managing complex overhauls, ensuring asset availability, developing the maintenance team’s capabilities, and driving continuous improvement in mechanical performance. The position serves as a senior technical authority and decision-maker in all turbine-related maintenance activities.
Leadership & Strategic Oversight:
Lead all mechanical maintenance activities related to water turbines and associated systems (e.g., couplings, bearings, seals, governors, hydraulic controls).
Develop long-term maintenance strategies, annual plans, and budgets aligned with utility goals.
Execution of Major Interventions:
Oversee major turbine overhauls, refurbishments, and installation projects in collaboration with OEMs and contractors.
Ensure precise execution of component replacements, balancing, alignment, and commissioning procedures.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Analysis:
Analyze complex mechanical failures, vibration trends, seal wear, and lubrication issues.
Conduct and lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and drive implementation of permanent corrective actions.
Reliability & Performance Optimization:
Monitor turbine KPIs (efficiency, downtime, MTBF, availability) and initiate improvement programs.
Collaborate with condition monitoring teams (vibration, thermography, ultrasound) to align predictive insights with maintenance action plans.
Compliance, Safety & Quality Assurance:
Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and health & safety standards.
Conduct audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments related to turbine operations.
Team Management & Development:
Lead and mentor a team of supervisors, technicians, and apprentices.
Design technical training programs and skill development plans for turbine maintenance personnel.
Documentation & Systems Management:
Review and approve maintenance records, overhauls reports, and technical documentation.
Ensure timely and accurate CMMS updates and spare part tracking for all turbine-related assets.
Turbine Asset Management:
Maximize reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance of water turbines and auxiliary systems.
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead a skilled maintenance team, provide technical mentorship, and foster a safety-first culture.
Maintenance Strategy Execution:
Implement planned and predictive maintenance programs tailored to water turbine systems.
Root Cause & Reliability Engineering:
Lead RCA processes and implement corrective actions for chronic or high-impact turbine issues.
Major Overhaul & Project Management:
Plan and manage complex maintenance shutdowns, contractor activities, and turbine upgrades.
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Readiness:
Ensure all maintenance practices comply with environmental, quality, and occupational safety regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s or certifications in reliability preferred).
10+ years of mechanical maintenance experience, with 5+ years in turbine or rotating equipment supervision (preferably in water utilities or power recovery systems).
Deep understanding of hydraulic turbines, pumps, valves, seals, alignment, and mechanical diagnostics.
Proficient in CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) and reliability analysis tools.
Strong leadership, communication, planning, and crisis management skills.
Certifications in vibration analysis, predictive maintenance, or safety compliance are an advantage.
