Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Turbine Maintenance Supervisor – Water Utilities is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, inspection, and minor repair of water-driven turbines used in water treatment and pumping facilities. This entry-level supervisory role involves hands-on involvement in the mechanical upkeep of turbines, coordination with technicians, and ensuring safe maintenance practices under the guidance of senior engineers. This position is ideal for mechanically skilled professionals seeking to grow in turbine operations within utility services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance Execution:

    • Assist in supervising routine and preventive maintenance activities for water turbines and associated mechanical systems.

    • Support basic troubleshooting and assist technicians with disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly tasks.

    • Monitor equipment for abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, or leakage.

  • Technical Support:

    • Collaborate with senior supervisors or OEM vendors during turbine inspections or minor overhauls.

    • Participate in condition checks for couplings, bearings, shaft seals, and lubricating systems.

    • Assist in alignment and calibration of turbine components during scheduled servicing.

  • Work Coordination:

    • Coordinate daily tasks among mechanical technicians; ensure tool and material availability.

    • Report progress, issues, and work status to senior supervisors and planning teams.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Adhere to safety protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry requirements.

    • Participate in toolbox talks and ensure the team complies with water utility safety standards.

  • Documentation & CMMS Entry:

    • Record maintenance data, turbine performance logs, and part replacement details.

    • Assist in updating CMMS work orders and maintenance checklists.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Water Turbine Maintenance Basics:
    Gain operational understanding and assist in the mechanical upkeep of turbines used in water pumping and treatment processes.

  2. Hands-On Mechanical Support:
    Support tasks such as lubrication, alignment checks, seal inspections, and minor repairs under supervision.

  3. Team Coordination:
    Assist in organizing and supervising day-to-day technician activities and support field troubleshooting.

  4. Safety & Compliance in Water Utilities:
    Ensure compliance with water utility safety regulations, confined space, and equipment isolation procedures.

  5. Maintenance Reporting & CMMS:
    Accurately record maintenance activities, observations, and updates in computerized systems.

  6. Learning & Growth:
    Develop foundational knowledge in turbine operations, maintenance planning, and water utility operations.


Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.

  • 2–3 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience (preferably with turbines or rotating equipment).

  • Familiarity with mechanical tools, basic alignment, lubrication, and maintenance practices.

  • Basic understanding of water utility systems and turbine operation is an advantage.

  • Good organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to learn and work in field-based utility environments.
