Turbine Aerodynamics Specialist (CFD/FEA)

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Title: Turbine Aerodynamics Specialist (CFD/FEA)

Job Summary:

The Junior Turbine Aerodynamics Specialist supports the analysis and optimization of turbine components using CFD and FEA tools. This entry-level role is focused on simulating flow and thermal behavior within turbocharger turbines, assisting in performance predictions, geometry refinement, and mechanical integrity assessments. Working under senior aerodynamicists and mechanical analysts, the specialist contributes to product development efforts aimed at improving efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness in high-speed rotating machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform CFD simulations of exhaust gas flow through turbine stages to evaluate aerodynamic performance (efficiency, pressure ratio, blade loading).

  • Assist in thermal and structural analysis using FEA tools to assess material stresses, deformation, and fatigue life.

  • Support design iterations of turbine wheels, nozzles, and volutes in collaboration with senior engineers.

  • Generate mesh models, set up boundary conditions, and post-process simulation results under guidance.

  • Help validate simulation outcomes by comparing with experimental or test data.

  • Document analysis findings and contribute to technical reports and design reviews.

  • Stay current on best practices and developments in CFD/FEA methods and turbomachinery applications.

Key Focus Areas:

  • CFD-based flow analysis of turbocharger turbine components

  • Basic FEA for thermal and stress evaluation

  • Design support for blade, housing, and flow path geometries

  • Simulation setup, meshing, and post-processing

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering with emphasis on fluid mechanics or turbomachinery

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in CFD or FEA; internships or academic projects in turbomachinery are a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS CFX, Fluent, or STAR-CCM+)

  • Exposure to FEA software (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical or Abaqus)

  • Understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer

  • Basic skills in CAD software and meshing tools (e.g., ANSYS Meshing, ICEM, or Pointwise)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

  • Good analytical thinking and data interpretation skills

  • Effective team collaboration and communication abilities
