The Junior Tool and Die Technician assists in the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other precision components used in manufacturing. The role focuses on supporting senior technicians and gaining hands-on experience in machining, tool fitting, and press tooling maintenance.
Assist in routine maintenance and minor repairs of dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures
Help troubleshoot wear, damage, or dimensional issues in tools used for stamping, forging, or molding
Support the refurbishment and polishing of tool components under supervision
Operate basic manual machines (e.g., lathe, milling, grinding, drilling)
Assist in measurements, fitting, and assembling of die components
Learn CNC basics and tool-path interpretation (if applicable)
Maintain cleanliness, tool organization, and workplace safety in the tool room
Support inventory tracking and request for standard tooling materials and spares
Handle tool movement logs and basic documentation
Conduct dimensional checks using instruments like micrometers, calipers, height gauges
Understand basic tolerances and drawing interpretations
Ensure tools meet basic quality and fitment standards before handover
Receive on-the-job training from senior technicians and engineers
Participate in technical workshops and SOP training
Follow safety and operating procedures during all tasks
Assist in tool and die maintenance, assembly, and minor modifications
Report tool condition issues and maintenance needs to supervisors
Prepare tools for production runs and ensure readiness
Work closely with the production and maintenance teams for tool-related support
Maintain logs of tool service history and usage
ITI / Diploma in Tool and Die Making / Mechanical Engineering / Fitter Trade
0–2 years of experience in a tool room or manufacturing setup (apprenticeship experience preferred)
Basic understanding of mechanical drawings and measuring tools
Familiarity with shop floor tools and basic machining practices
Basic measurement and mechanical fitting skills
Willingness to learn precision work and equipment handling
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Attention to detail and commitment to safety practices
Knowledge of press tools, molds, or plastic injection tooling (basic level)
Exposure to CAD/CAM systems or CNC operations is a plus
Apprenticeship under DGET/NCVT programs
Workshop-based role with direct interaction with tools, machines, and production equipment
May involve standing for long hours, handling heavy tools, and occasional shift work
PPE usage (gloves, goggles, safety shoes) is mandatory
