Job Title: Thermal Lab Technician – Climate Chambers

Job Summary:

The Junior Thermal Lab Technician – Climate Chambers supports environmental testing of HVAC, battery, and powertrain components by preparing and monitoring test setups within controlled climate chambers. This entry-level role involves assisting with sensor installation, test article setup, chamber programming, and routine maintenance. The technician ensures accurate data capture and test integrity while learning thermal cycling, humidity control, and cold start procedures under the guidance of senior lab staff and test engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up thermal tests inside climate chambers, including component mounting, insulation, and sensor placement.

  • Support installation of thermocouples, pressure sensors, and data acquisition wiring under engineering supervision.

  • Load test parameters (temperature, humidity, air velocity) into chamber control systems per provided test plans.

  • Monitor chamber conditions and test article performance during thermal cycles, recording any anomalies or alarms.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting on test fixtures, sensor connections, or chamber operation issues.

  • Follow all safety protocols related to high/low temperatures, electrical setups, and refrigerants.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the thermal lab, including cables, instrumentation, and tools.

  • Document setup details, sensor layouts, and test events in logbooks or lab software.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • High school diploma or technical certification in Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, or Automotive Technology

  • Coursework or training in thermal systems, instrumentation, or testing preferred

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in a test lab, vehicle development, or environmental testing environment

  • Exposure to climate chambers, data logging, or sensor calibration a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Basic understanding of thermal cycles, humidity control, and HVAC components

  • Familiarity with thermocouples, DAQ wiring, and chamber operation

  • Comfortable using hand tools, basic electrical tools, and computer interfaces

Soft Skills:

  • Attention to detail and adherence to safety and test procedures

  • Good communication and teamwork with lab staff and engineers

  • Eagerness to learn thermal test methods and instrumentation techniques

  • Ability to follow instructions and work with supervision
