System Calibration Technician – Temperature Sensors

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Title: System Calibration Technician – Temperature Sensors

Job Summary:

The Senior System Calibration Technician – Temperature Sensors is a technical expert responsible for leading the calibration, integration, and validation of temperature sensing systems used in vehicle, powertrain, and HVAC thermal development. This role ensures high accuracy and reliability in thermocouple, RTD, and digital sensor data across complex test programs. The senior technician drives calibration quality, mentors junior staff, oversees lab processes, and collaborates closely with engineering teams to support high-fidelity data collection in both bench and vehicle environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead calibration of temperature sensors using NIST-traceable calibration equipment and standards, ensuring data accuracy across development and validation programs.

  • Oversee the design and execution of sensor layouts and harness routing for vehicle, dyno, and system-level tests involving HVAC, battery thermal, and powertrain components.

  • Configure and validate sensor input channels in DAQ systems (NI, HBM, Dewesoft), including scaling, diagnostics, and real-time data integrity checks.

  • Perform root cause analysis on sensor-related issues such as noise, drift, grounding faults, or incorrect signal behavior.

  • Ensure adherence to ISO 17025 and internal calibration traceability standards across all instrumentation setups.

  • Guide junior and mid-level technicians on proper sensor handling, test planning, and calibration procedures.

  • Collaborate with engineering leads to define test instrumentation requirements, validation plans, and thermal system evaluation strategies.

  • Maintain calibration records, sensor certifications, and configuration change logs to support audit readiness and data traceability.

  • Drive continuous improvement in calibration lab procedures, automation tools, sensor durability methods, and test coverage optimization.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Leadership in sensor calibration accuracy and lab operations

  • High-fidelity integration of temperature sensors in vehicle and system-level tests

  • Root cause analysis and resolution of sensor/data acquisition issues

  • Documentation, traceability, and adherence to calibration quality standards

  • Mentorship of junior technicians and collaboration with test and engineering teams

  • Support of HVAC, battery, and powertrain thermal development programs

  • Process improvement and instrumentation standardization

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Instrumentation, or related field

  • Formal training in metrology, ISO calibration standards, or DAQ system integration is strongly preferred

Experience:

  • 6–10+ years of experience in thermal systems calibration, lab instrumentation, or sensor-based vehicle development

  • Proven leadership in calibration processes, sensor setup, and cross-functional project support

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of thermocouple types (K, T, J), RTDs, and digital sensors (I2C, CAN)

  • Proficiency with calibration baths, temperature references, and DAQ systems (NI, HBM, Dewesoft)

  • Experience with ISO 17025 compliance, calibration uncertainty analysis, and high-sample-rate data logging

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and leadership abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with cross-functional teams

  • Detail-driven with a strong commitment to data accuracy and testing efficiency

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in high-demand lab environments with minimal supervision
