The Mid-Level Utilities Mechanical Crew Supervisor leads a team of mechanics in maintaining and optimizing plant utility systems—steam boilers, compressed air networks, chilled water plants, cooling towers, and building HVAC. This role plans and prioritizes work, drives preventive and predictive maintenance, mentors crew members, and coordinates with operations and engineering to ensure uninterrupted, efficient utility service.
Work Planning & Scheduling
Develop weekly and monthly maintenance plans in the CMMS based on asset criticality, run-hours, and production schedules.
Coordinate planned outages and adjust priorities in real time to address urgent utility failures.
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise, coach, and evaluate a crew of 5–10 utility mechanics; conduct skills assessments and facilitate advanced training (e.g., boiler tuning, compressor overhaul).
Lead daily briefings and ensure clear communication of priorities, safety requirements, and procedural changes.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Oversee execution of preventive tasks (lubrication, filter changes, valve cycling) and condition-monitoring programs (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) for boilers, compressors, chillers, and pumps.
Analyze monitoring data to predict failures and adjust maintenance frequencies accordingly.
Corrective Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Lead root-cause investigations for recurring utility equipment issues; implement corrective actions and monitor effectiveness.
Manage emergency repairs—mobilize technicians, secure parts, and confirm quality of work.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce LOTO, confined-space, pressure-relief, and hot-work permit procedures; conduct toolbox talks and safety audits.
Ensure crew adheres to environmental and regulatory standards for pressure vessels, refrigeration, and steam systems.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
Engage external service providers for specialized tasks (boiler inspections, compressor rebuilds, chiller refrigerant handling); oversee work quality and contract compliance.
Maintain preferred-vendor lists and track service agreements.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate CMMS records: work orders, inspection logs, calibration certificates, and asset histories.
Generate monthly performance reports (uptime, MTTR/MTBF, planned vs. unplanned ratio) and present to maintenance leadership.
Reliability of Steam, Compressed Air & Chilled Water Systems
Advanced Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Programs
Structured Troubleshooting & Root-Cause Analysis
CMMS Optimization & Data Integrity
Crew Development & Technical Training
Safety Leadership in High-Risk Utility Environments
Vendor Management & Contract Compliance
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
4–7 years of hands-on experience with plant utility systems, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead-hand role.
Proven track record with CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) and condition-monitoring tools.
Strong leadership, coaching, and crew-management skills
In-depth understanding of steam, air, refrigeration, and HVAC cycles
Data-driven decision-making with proficiency in KPI analysis
Excellent organizational and project-coordination abilities
Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
