Roles & Responsibilities

Job Title: Structural Mechanics Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Mechanics Engineer to join our engineering team. In this senior-level role, you will take a lead position in designing, analyzing, and optimizing structural systems for various industries such as automotive, aerospace, or industrial applications. You will be responsible for overseeing complex structural designs, guiding junior and mid-level engineers, and driving innovation in structural mechanics. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, advanced simulation techniques, and the ability to solve high-level engineering problems while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Structural Design & Analysis: Take full ownership of complex structural designs, conducting detailed structural analysis (e.g., stress, fatigue, vibration) to ensure safety, performance, and reliability. Use advanced simulation tools (e.g., FEA) to optimize designs and improve the overall system's mechanical integrity.
  • Project Leadership: Lead multiple projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely and successful delivery. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage resources, and ensure project goals are met within scope, budget, and schedule. Provide strategic direction and set priorities for the team.
  • Advanced Simulation & Testing: Lead the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other advanced simulation techniques to assess the mechanical behavior of components under various conditions. Oversee testing and validation to ensure that designs meet industry standards and performance criteria.
  • Innovative Design Solutions: Drive innovation in structural design by exploring and integrating emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes. Develop advanced solutions to address complex engineering challenges and optimize structural performance.
  • Mentorship & Team Leadership: Provide technical mentorship and leadership to junior and mid-level engineers. Review their work, provide feedback, and help them develop their technical expertise. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the engineering team.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Identify potential design risks and ensure that all projects comply with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, FAA, ASTM). Implement mitigation strategies for identified risks and ensure adherence to safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, procurement, and other engineering disciplines to ensure that structural designs are integrated seamlessly into the final product. Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment of engineering efforts with overall company goals.
  • Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization: Lead efforts to improve design processes, tools, and methodologies. Implement best practices for structural mechanics and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Reporting: Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions to senior management and external stakeholders. Prepare detailed reports and presentations to provide clear technical explanations and updates on project status.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Structural Design Leadership: Lead the design and optimization of structural systems to ensure high performance, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Advanced Analysis & Simulation: Utilize advanced simulation tools and techniques to drive improvements in structural component design.
  • Innovation & Process Improvement: Drive continuous innovation in design methodologies, materials, and manufacturing techniques to optimize system performance and reduce costs.
  • Project & Resource Management: Lead complex projects, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives while managing resources, timelines, and budgets effectively.
  • Mentorship & Team Development: Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineers at various levels, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure that all designs and processes comply with relevant industry regulations, addressing risks proactively.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in structural mechanics, structural design, or a related field. Experience in automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors is required, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of structural design principles, materials selection, FEA, and advanced simulation techniques. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and advanced FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Project Management Experience: Proven experience leading complex engineering projects, with the ability to manage resources, timelines, and deliverables. Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across various departments.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities, with a strong track record of solving complex engineering challenges and optimizing designs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of industry regulations and safety standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, FAA) and experience ensuring compliance in structural designs.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certifications.
  • Relevant structural mechanics certifications (e.g., P.E. license).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Advanced FEA or CAD software certifications.
