Job Title: Structural Mechanics Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and driven Mid-Level Structural Mechanics Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing structural systems across various applications such as automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the performance, safety, and compliance of structural components. This position provides opportunities for professional growth while offering the challenge of solving complex engineering problems and driving innovative design solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Design & Analysis: Lead the design and analysis of structural components and systems, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Perform detailed stress analysis, vibration analysis, and fatigue assessments to optimize designs.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Utilize FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) to perform structural simulations and evaluate the mechanical behavior of materials under various loading conditions. Interpret results and recommend design adjustments based on analysis outcomes.
- Material Selection & Testing: Support the selection of appropriate materials for structural components based on mechanical properties, durability, and performance criteria. Oversee the testing and validation of components, ensuring they meet the necessary specifications and standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development teams, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, electrical) to ensure smooth integration of structural components within the overall system. Act as a liaison between departments to drive design optimization and manufacturability.
- Project Leadership: Manage multiple projects and ensure that structural components are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with quality standards. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and resolve any technical challenges.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them develop their technical skills and supporting their professional growth. Review their work to ensure accuracy and adherence to engineering principles.
- Innovation & Process Improvement: Lead efforts to improve the performance, efficiency, and manufacturability of structural components. Identify and implement innovative design solutions, new materials, and technologies to enhance system performance and reduce costs.
- Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure that all structural designs meet relevant industry standards and safety regulations (e.g., ISO, ASTM, FAA). Identify potential risks in design and manufacturing, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, analysis documentation, and design specifications. Present design progress and technical findings to stakeholders and senior management.
Key Focus Areas:
- Design & Analysis Leadership: Take ownership of structural design and analysis, ensuring components meet performance, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
- FEA & Simulation Expertise: Use advanced simulation tools to evaluate the structural integrity of designs and identify areas for improvement.
- Project Management & Delivery: Manage the execution of multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery while meeting project goals and quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively with other engineering disciplines and teams to optimize designs and ensure successful product integration.
- Mentorship & Team Development: Support the growth of junior engineers by providing mentorship and reviewing their work to ensure technical accuracy.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: 3-6 years of experience in structural mechanics, mechanical design, or a related field. Experience in automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and advanced knowledge of FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus). Solid understanding of structural analysis methods, stress analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Project Management: Experience in managing engineering projects, including tracking timelines, resources, and budgets. Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex engineering problems and develop innovative solutions. A detail-oriented approach to identifying design challenges and troubleshooting issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information to cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues in engineering, manufacturing, and other departments.
- Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, ASTM, FAA) and experience ensuring compliance in structural design.
Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certifications.
- Relevant structural mechanics certifications or specialized training in FEA tools.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
