Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Title: Structural Mechanics Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Structural Mechanics Engineer to join our engineering team. In this entry-level role, you will assist in the design, analysis, and testing of structural systems for various applications, such as automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors. You will collaborate with senior engineers to support the development and improvement of structural components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This position provides the opportunity to develop your technical expertise and grow within the structural mechanics field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Support: Assist in the design of structural components and systems, including conducting initial calculations and simulations to ensure designs meet functional and safety requirements.
  • Structural Analysis: Perform basic structural analysis and stress analysis using computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools (e.g., Finite Element Analysis - FEA). Evaluate the impact of loads, forces, and material properties on structural performance.
  • Material Selection: Support the selection of appropriate materials for structural components based on mechanical properties, cost, and performance requirements. Assist in evaluating material fatigue and failure modes.
  • Testing & Validation: Assist in the planning and execution of physical testing to validate structural designs. Help analyze test data and document results to assess component performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaboration with Senior Engineers: Work closely with senior engineers to support structural design, review calculations, and refine engineering solutions. Participate in team discussions on improving design and manufacturing processes.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare reports and technical documentation that clearly explain analysis results, design decisions, and testing procedures. Assist in presenting findings to senior team members.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with the latest structural mechanics principles, tools, and technologies. Participate in training programs and seek out opportunities for professional growth within the field.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Design Assistance & Analysis: Assist in designing structural components and systems, ensuring that they are functional, safe, and manufacturable.
  • Simulation & Analysis Tools: Support the use of FEA and other engineering simulation tools to evaluate the structural integrity of designs.
  • Testing & Validation: Help with testing and validating designs to ensure they meet safety standards and perform as expected under real-world conditions.
  • Learning & Development: Actively engage in learning opportunities and seek mentorship from senior engineers to develop expertise in structural mechanics.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of experience in structural mechanics, mechanical design, or a related engineering discipline. Internship or co-op experience in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with structural analysis methods and tools (e.g., FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL). Basic knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to evaluate complex engineering challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a willingness to learn from more experienced engineers.
  • Learning Agility: Eagerness to learn new engineering principles, tools, and techniques. Open to feedback and committed to professional growth.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Any relevant engineering certifications (e.g., CAD, FEA tools).
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
