The Junior Structural Fitter / Steel Fabricator will assist in assembling and fitting structural steel components based on fabrication drawings. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals starting their careers in steel fabrication, with hands-on support in layout, marking, grinding, and basic fit-up tasks under close supervision.
Assist in layout, marking, and measurement of structural steel components like beams, columns, channels, angles, and plates.
Support fit-up and assembly of structural parts under the guidance of senior fitters or supervisors.
Operate basic fabrication tools such as grinders, drills, measuring tapes, clamps, and hand tools.
Ensure proper alignment and spacing during tack welding or bolting operations.
Follow instructions from foremen or senior fitters during trial assemblies or on-site erection prep work.
Maintain tools and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the work area.
Adhere to safety procedures including PPE use, rigging safety, and hot work precautions.
Help in identifying parts based on drawings, tags, and material codes.
Assist in packing, shifting, and organizing steel materials within the workshop or site.
Drawing Familiarity: Begin understanding basic structural fabrication drawings and symbols.
Fit-Up Assistance: Learn the basics of joint alignment, tack welding prep, and standard fabrication tolerances.
Measurement Skills: Develop accuracy in marking, cutting lines, hole positioning, and member alignment.
Material Identification: Recognize basic structural sections and standard plate sizes.
Tool Handling: Proper use and care of fabrication tools, grinders, drills, clamps, etc.
Workplace Safety: Strong focus on personal and team safety practices.
Teamwork: Ability to work under supervision and support team members effectively.
Education:
ITI or Trade Certificate in Fitting, Fabrication, or Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
Higher secondary education (preferred for general understanding)
Experience:
0–2 years of experience or apprenticeship in steel fabrication, construction, or metal fitting
Skills:
Basic understanding of structural shapes and steel terminology
Ability to read simple drawings or learn from instruction
Eagerness to grow in the fabrication trade
Physical fitness for working in workshop/site conditions
Good attitude, punctuality, and willingness to follow instructions
