Structural Analyst – Fabricated Component Stress/Load Checks

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Structural Analyst leads advanced stress, load, fatigue, and failure analyses for complex fabricated structures and load-bearing components used in marine, offshore, and heavy industrial environments. This role provides expert technical guidance in finite element analysis (FEA), design validation, and structural optimization while ensuring compliance with relevant international standards and safety margins. The position supports critical project phases from concept through design review, fabrication, testing, and installation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead detailed structural analysis of fabricated components such as skids, foundations, lifting frames, access platforms, structural supports, and welded assemblies.

  • Develop and validate FEA models using advanced techniques (non-linear, dynamic, buckling, thermal-structural coupling) in tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.

  • Analyze and assess complex load cases, including seismic, hydrodynamic, blast, and fatigue loading, alongside standard static and transport loads.

  • Perform critical weld and joint assessments, local stress evaluations, and fatigue life predictions per ASME, DNV, API, and Eurocode standards.

  • Lead root cause evaluations of structural failures or excessive deformations and provide engineering-based corrective actions.

  • Review and approve analysis reports and calculation packages for submission to classification societies, clients, and third-party reviewers.

  • Interface with design, production, and QA/QC teams to integrate structural integrity requirements into fabrication-ready models and drawings.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level analysts, review their models and results, and ensure quality and consistency in analysis documentation.

  • Participate in third-party verification, client design reviews, and class society technical audits.

  • Contribute to the development of internal structural analysis procedures, tools, and design guidelines for improved accuracy and efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Applied Mechanics.

  • 8–15 years of experience in structural analysis and simulation in heavy fabrication, marine, offshore, or industrial sectors.

  • Advanced proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS (Mechanical/Workbench), Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, Autodesk Nastran, or equivalent.

  • In-depth understanding of structural mechanics, stress analysis, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and vibration response.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards: DNV-RP-C201, ASME VIII Div. 2, Eurocode 3, API RP 2A, ABS Steel Vessel Rules, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading or reviewing complex structural design validations and performance qualification packages.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with lifting analysis, transport skids, modular structures, and offshore handling systems.

  • Scripting/programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, APDL) for analysis automation and customization.

  • Exposure to digital twin or real-time structural health monitoring systems.

  • Certification or training in structural design for offshore or seismic applications.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular field visits to shipyards, fabrication shops, and offshore structures during build or inspection phases.

  • PPE required during site visits; role may include confined space entry, elevated work inspections, or on-site troubleshooting.

  • May require extended work hours during critical project phases, testing campaigns, or incident investigations.
