Structural Analyst – FEA on Rotating Disks and Turbine Housings

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Analyst specializing in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of rotating disks and turbine housings. The role requires deep technical expertise to lead complex structural simulation projects, provide engineering leadership, and drive innovation in the design and durability assessment of critical rotating components.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead advanced FEA projects for rotating disks and turbine housings, delivering high-accuracy structural integrity, fatigue, and life predictions under multi-physics loading conditions.

    • Architect and validate sophisticated FEA models incorporating nonlinearities, contact phenomena, thermal gradients, and dynamic effects.

    • Drive design optimization initiatives by integrating FEA insights with experimental data and operational feedback to enhance product reliability and performance.

    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level analysts, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.

    • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including design, materials, testing, and manufacturing to ensure holistic engineering solutions.

    • Lead failure investigations and root cause analyses for structural issues, recommending robust corrective and preventive actions.

    • Champion continuous improvement of analysis methodologies, standards, and tools to maintain best-in-class engineering practices.

    • Communicate complex technical results and strategic recommendations clearly to senior management and external stakeholders.

Key Focus Areas:

    • Rotating Disk Structural Analysis: Expert evaluation of centrifugal stresses, high-cycle and low-cycle fatigue, crack growth, and fracture mechanics.

    • Turbine Housing Durability: Advanced thermo-mechanical and creep-fatigue interaction analysis under high-temperature, high-pressure environments.

    • Multiphysics FEA: Integration of structural, thermal, vibrational, and fluid-structure interaction analyses.

    • Material Behavior Modeling: Incorporation of advanced constitutive models including anisotropic plasticity, viscoplasticity, and damage mechanics.

    • Model Validation & Benchmarking: Leading correlation efforts between simulation results and experimental or field data to ensure model fidelity.

    • Strategic Engineering Leadership: Influencing product development roadmaps, contributing to risk assessments, and supporting certification and regulatory compliance.

    • Innovation & R&D: Driving research initiatives to explore cutting-edge FEA techniques, tools, and materials technology.

Qualifications:

    • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline preferred.

    • 7+ years of progressive experience in structural analysis with a strong emphasis on FEA for rotating machinery or similar high-performance components.

    • Mastery of FEA software (ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, etc.) and scripting/programming for automation and custom analysis.

    • Proven track record in handling complex nonlinear and coupled multi-physics simulations.

    • Deep knowledge of material science as related to high-temperature, high-stress rotating components.

    • Strong leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills.

    • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting technical results to diverse audiences.
