Structural Analyst – FEA on Rotating Disks and Turbine Housings

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled Mid-Level Structural Analyst with solid experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of rotating disks and turbine housings. The role involves performing advanced structural simulations to ensure component integrity under mechanical and thermal stresses, contributing to design optimization, failure analysis, and product reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead and execute complex FEA projects focusing on rotating disks and turbine housings, assessing structural performance, durability, and fatigue life.

    • Develop, refine, and validate high-fidelity FEA models incorporating accurate material properties, boundary conditions, and load cases.

    • Perform coupled thermo-mechanical and dynamic analyses to predict stress, deformation, vibration modes, and thermal effects.

    • Interpret and present simulation results clearly to design teams and stakeholders, recommending design modifications for improved performance and safety.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to integrate FEA insights into product development cycles.

    • Support root cause investigations of component failures and participate in corrective action planning.

    • Mentor junior analysts and provide technical guidance on FEA best practices.

    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in analysis methodologies and software tool usage.

Key Focus Areas:

    • Rotating Disk Analysis: Detailed centrifugal stress, fatigue, and crack initiation studies under high-speed operation conditions.

    • Turbine Housing Structural Assessment: Thermal stress evaluation, creep, and fatigue life prediction in high-temperature environments.

    • Advanced FEA Techniques: Nonlinear analysis, contact and interface modeling, modal and harmonic response analysis.

    • Thermo-Mechanical Coupling: Integrated thermal and structural simulations to capture real operating conditions.

    • Material Modeling: Implementation of advanced material models, including anisotropy, plasticity, and damage mechanics.

    • Model Validation & Correlation: Comparison of FEA results with experimental data or field performance for model calibration.

    • Reporting & Documentation: Detailed technical report generation and presentation of findings for engineering reviews and certification.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.

    • 3-6 years of professional experience in structural analysis with FEA focus on rotating machinery or similar components.

    • Proficient in FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, or equivalent.

    • Strong understanding of rotating machinery dynamics, structural mechanics, and material behavior under mechanical and thermal loads.

    • Experience in coupled thermal-structural analyses and fatigue assessment.

    • Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced engineering environment.
