Structural Analyst – FEA on Rotating Disks and Turbine Housings

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated Junior Structural Analyst to join our engineering team, specializing in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of rotating disks and turbine housings. The ideal candidate will support the design and validation of critical rotating components by performing detailed structural simulations, ensuring reliability and performance under operational loads.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on rotating disks and turbine housings to assess structural integrity, stress distribution, thermal effects, and fatigue life.

    • Develop and validate FEA models using industry-standard tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or NASTRAN.

    • Analyze stress, strain, deformation, and vibrational behavior under dynamic and thermal loading conditions.

    • Support design iterations by interpreting analysis results and recommending improvements.

    • Collaborate with design engineers to integrate FEA findings into component design and manufacturing processes.

    • Assist in preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for engineering reviews.

    • Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of structural failures.

    • Stay updated with latest FEA methodologies and best practices relevant to rotating machinery.

Key Focus Areas:

    • Rotating Disk Analysis: Stress and fatigue life assessment under centrifugal and thermal loads.

    • Turbine Housing Evaluation: Structural and thermal stress analysis to ensure durability and performance.

    • FEA Model Development: Meshing, boundary conditions, load application, and result interpretation.

    • Thermo-Mechanical Coupling: Understanding of combined thermal and mechanical effects on rotating components.

    • Material Behavior: Application of material properties and failure criteria in simulations.

    • Validation & Testing Support: Correlate simulation data with experimental or field test results.

    • Continuous Learning: Apply advanced FEA techniques such as nonlinear analysis, contact modeling, and modal analysis.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.

    • Basic knowledge of Finite Element Analysis principles.

    • Hands-on experience or internship exposure to FEA software tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, or similar).

    • Understanding of rotating machinery components and mechanical design principles.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.

    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
