The Senior Steam Turbine Technician leads and performs advanced mechanical maintenance, overhauls, and diagnostic activities on steam turbines and their auxiliary systems. The technician ensures compliance with OEM standards and safety practices, provides field-level leadership, and supports troubleshooting, planning, and execution during plant outages and operations.
Lead and execute major overhauls, inspections (HP/IP/LP stages), and component replacement for steam turbines.
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble major turbine components such as rotors, diaphragms, bearings, blades, valves, and casings.
Perform high-accuracy measurements, including runout checks, clearance measurements, and alignment of rotating components using advanced instruments.
Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues related to vibration, leakage, temperature deviation, or alignment shifts.
Supervise field teams, contractors, and junior technicians during maintenance work and shutdowns.
Interpret and apply OEM procedures, P&IDs, and technical drawings to ensure correct execution of maintenance plans.
Operate and maintain auxiliary systems (gland sealing system, lube oil system, vacuum pumps, etc.) and ensure their integration with turbine operation.
Ensure full compliance with site safety protocols, including LOTO, confined space entry, and permit systems.
Document all work activities, inspection results, measurements, and part replacements in CMMS or technical logs.
Interface with engineers, OEM representatives, QA/QC, and operations teams during troubleshooting or project execution.
Provide technical mentoring, training, and leadership for junior team members.
Independently manage complex turbine maintenance scopes, ensuring work quality, alignment, and OEM compliance.
Use precision tools (laser alignment, micrometers, dial indicators) to verify tolerances and alignments.
Lead fault diagnosis and root cause analysis of critical steam turbine issues.
Direct maintenance crews and support contractors to safely execute work on schedule.
Ensure that junior staff follow proper procedures and are coached during jobs.
Promote and enforce rigorous safety standards on all maintenance activities.
Conduct toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and pre-job safety briefings.
Maintain detailed records of inspection findings, corrective actions, and technical observations.
Communicate effectively with engineers and supervisors to support decision-making.
