The Mid-Level Steam Turbine Technician is responsible for executing mechanical maintenance, inspections, and minor troubleshooting tasks on steam turbines and related auxiliary systems. Working with limited supervision, the technician ensures safe, precise, and efficient turbine operations during both routine service and planned shutdowns.
Perform mechanical maintenance activities on steam turbines including gland seal maintenance, casing tightening, bearing replacement, and alignment support.
Assist in disassembly and reassembly of steam turbine components during inspections or overhauls (HP, IP, and LP sections).
Carry out precision measurements such as axial/radial clearances, blade tip gaps, and casing fits using calibrated instruments.
Service and support steam turbine auxiliaries such as lube oil systems, gland steam systems, vacuum systems, and control valves.
Participate in minor troubleshooting of vibration, leakage, and alignment issues.
Read and interpret OEM manuals, mechanical drawings, and maintenance procedures.
Ensure compliance with permit-to-work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safety standards at all times.
Record measurements, maintenance logs, and parts condition reports accurately.
Coordinate with supervisors, QA/QC, and engineers during inspections and overhauls.
Provide guidance to junior technicians or apprentices as needed.
Perform mechanical work on steam turbines independently, following maintenance schedules and OEM instructions.
Focus on efficient disassembly and accurate reassembly of critical components.
Conduct precise clearance checks and alignments with appropriate tools (micrometers, gauges, dial indicators).
Identify worn/damaged parts and escalate issues for further inspection or repair.
Operate, check, and perform maintenance on key auxiliary systems supporting steam turbine performance.
Adhere to all site-specific safety protocols including confined space, PPE, and hot work practices.
Report unsafe conditions or near-miss events immediately to ensure a safe work environment.
Interact with supervisors and engineers to clarify work scopes and report technical findings clearly.
Provide input during toolbox talks and contribute to post-job evaluations.
