The Junior Steam Turbine Technician assists in routine maintenance, inspection, and mechanical support activities for steam turbines and related auxiliary systems. The role is hands-on and learning-focused, supporting preventive and corrective maintenance under supervision, while ensuring safety and quality compliance.
Assist with basic mechanical maintenance of steam turbines, including valve servicing, gland seal maintenance, and lubrication tasks.
Support turbine disassembly and reassembly during planned shutdowns or inspections.
Handle and clean turbine components such as diaphragms, blades, casings, and fasteners.
Participate in alignment checks, torquing, and dimensional inspections under supervision.
Follow job instructions, work permits, and safety procedures during all tasks.
Help with the setup and removal of rigging and lifting tools for heavy components.
Maintain work area cleanliness and proper tool storage.
Support the operation and minor servicing of auxiliary systems (lube oil system, gland steam system, etc.).
Participate in toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety briefings.
Develop practical experience in handling steam turbine components and understanding their function.
Learn to follow OEM guidelines and maintenance schedules.
Assist in taking basic mechanical readings and measurements (clearances, bolt torques).
Observe and document component conditions during inspection.
Comply with all site-specific safety protocols (LOTO, confined space, PPE).
Learn proper hazard identification and risk assessment techniques.
Build knowledge in turbine layout, auxiliary systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Gain familiarity with basic tools, measuring instruments, and rigging equipment.
Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant technical discipline)
Experience: 0โ2 years in mechanical maintenance (prior exposure to turbines is a plus)
Preferred Industry: Power Generation, Refineries, or Heavy Industrial Maintenance
Basic understanding of steam turbine principles and mechanics
Willingness to learn and follow instructions carefully
Good manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools and gauges
Physically fit to work in demanding environments
Team player with a positive, safety-first attitude
Field-based position; requires work in noisy, hot, or confined environments
Shift-based duties during overhauls or outages
Strict use of PPE and adherence to plant safety policies is mandatory
