The Mid-Level Shuttering Carpenter is responsible for constructing and installing formwork (shuttering) used for molding concrete structures such as columns, slabs, beams, and walls. The role requires hands-on carpentry skills, the ability to interpret drawings, and coordination with concrete and steel teams to ensure timely execution of structural works.
Read and interpret formwork drawings and specifications to build accurate shuttering for concrete works.
Measure, cut, and assemble formwork panels using wood, plywood, or prefabricated systems.
Install formwork for foundations, columns, slabs, walls, and beams according to levels and alignment.
Ensure proper bracing and support of formwork to avoid movement or collapse during concreting.
Dismantle formwork safely after concrete curing and clean for reuse.
Supervise and guide helpers in carrying, assembling, and dismantling tasks.
Ensure formwork surfaces are treated (oiled) to allow smooth concrete finish and easy removal.
Inspect formwork for defects or gaps and repair them before concrete pouring.
Follow safety procedures and report hazards or unsafe practices.
Vocational certificate or diploma in carpentry or construction trades.
3–5 years of experience in shuttering/formwork carpentry on construction sites.
Proficiency in handling tools like saws, hammers, measuring tapes, and levels.
Knowledge of modern formwork systems (e.g., Doka, PERI) is an added advantage.
Ability to interpret basic structural drawings and formwork layouts.
Good physical strength, balance, and attention to detail.
Basic understanding of concrete pouring and curing processes.
Safety training certification (e.g., scaffolding, working at heights, manual handling).
