The Shutdown Instrumentation Planning Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the development of all instrumentation-related planning for scheduled shutdowns and turnarounds. This role ensures that work scopes, schedules, resources, and documentation are effectively developed, reviewed, and implemented to enable safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all I&C field activities.
Supervise the planning of instrumentation scopes for shutdowns, including preventive and corrective tasks such as transmitter calibration, loop checks, valve overhauls, and system diagnostics.
Review and approve detailed work packs, job plans, test procedures, and MTOs prepared by planning staff.
Validate all I&C scopes against field walkdowns, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control system documentation.
Coordinate planning integration with mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines to align task sequencing and avoid schedule conflicts.
Oversee creation and maintenance of the master shutdown schedule for I&C work using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials, tools, instruments, and consumables.
Support development of manpower forecasts and assignment plans for I&C technicians and subcontractors.
Participate in shutdown readiness reviews, schedule risk analysis, and contingency planning.
Supervise the documentation process including test results, calibration records, redline updates, and as-built handovers.
Lead and mentor a team of junior and mid-level planners, ensuring adherence to planning best practices and HSE standards.
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Control Systems, or Electrical Engineering
10+ years of experience in instrumentation maintenance or planning, including 3–5 years in a supervisory role within shutdown or turnaround projects
Strong experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, and CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo)
In-depth knowledge of instrumentation devices, control systems, and field installation standards
Familiarity with shutdown safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and quality compliance protocols
Proven leadership in planning and resource coordination
Excellent understanding of field instrumentation, control systems, and shutdown logistics
Strong documentation control and QA/QC process awareness
Proficient in multi-discipline coordination and interface management
Effective communicator with strong organizational and mentoring skills
High commitment to safety, accuracy, and timely execution
