Job Summary:

The Senior Shutdown Instrumentation Planner is responsible for leading the development, integration, and execution planning of all instrumentation-related tasks during scheduled shutdowns and major turnarounds. This role involves preparing detailed plans, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring that all resources, documentation, and systems are aligned for successful, safe, and timely shutdown execution.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and coordination of all I&C scopes during shutdowns including calibration, loop checks, instrument replacements, valve overhauls, and system integration tests.

  • Develop detailed job plans and comprehensive work packs that include P&IDs, loop diagrams, datasheets, test forms, procedures, and inspection templates.

  • Drive the creation of critical path shutdown schedules using Primavera P6 (or equivalent) with integration across instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and process workstreams.

  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, QA/QC, procurement, and vendors to ensure availability of materials, drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Conduct field walkdowns and scope reviews to verify site conditions, resource needs, safety requirements, and logistics.

  • Identify risk areas, bottlenecks, and resource conflicts, and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor execution progress, update schedule forecasts, and support daily reporting and coordination meetings during shutdown execution.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and procedural requirements, including work permits and isolation procedures.

  • Oversee the completion of redline drawings, test records, and final documentation for system handover and closeout.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level planners, and support continuous improvement initiatives in shutdown planning and execution.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience)

  • 8–12 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance planning, with at least 4 years focused on shutdown/turnaround environments

  • Deep understanding of field instrumentation, control systems, PLC/DCS, calibration techniques, and installation practices

  • Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and CMMS platforms (SAP, Maximo, etc.)

  • Strong command of technical documentation (P&IDs, loop drawings, I/O lists) and industry standards (ISA, IEC, API)

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills under pressure

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities

  • Attention to detail, safety, and quality assurance

  • Ability to coach and lead planning teams and interface with contractors and client stakeholders
