Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Shutdown Instrumentation Planner (Mid-Level) is responsible for developing detailed plans, schedules, and work packages for all instrumentation activities during planned shutdowns and turnarounds. This includes coordinating with engineering, maintenance, and field teams to ensure readiness of manpower, tools, materials, and documentation for calibration, testing, and replacement tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop job plans and work packages for instrumentation activities such as transmitter calibration, loop checks, control valve overhauls, and instrument replacements.

  • Prepare material take-offs (MTOs), tools and equipment lists, and manpower forecasts for I&C shutdown scopes.

  • Coordinate with engineering, QA/QC, and procurement teams to ensure availability of drawings, spare parts, and vendor services.

  • Create and maintain shutdown schedules using planning software (Primavera P6 or MS Project), including critical path tracking for I&C tasks.

  • Ensure all instrument-related scopes are aligned with shutdown work windows and integrated with piping, electrical, and mechanical teams.

  • Conduct site visits to validate scope, assess access, and identify special requirements for scaffolding, isolation, or testing.

  • Track execution progress, update work status, and assist in daily shutdown reporting.

  • Participate in pre-shutdown readiness reviews and post-shutdown closeout reporting.

  • Support documentation of test results, calibration reports, redlines, and punch lists for final handover.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, work permit systems, and plant standards throughout planning and execution phases.


Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering

  • 4–7 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance planning, including shutdown or turnaround projects

  • Proficient in reading P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, and I/O lists

  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation, control valves, PLC/DCS interfaces, and calibration practices

  • Experience with planning tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) and maintenance software (SAP, Maximo, CMMS)

  • Good technical understanding of instrumentation and control systems

  • Effective communication with cross-discipline field and planning teams

  • Organized and detail-oriented with a focus on shutdown readiness

  • Strong problem-solving and coordination capabilities
